  1. No more snow for tonight in the nw by all accounts.
  2. Monday into Tesday a band of ppn is supposed to affect most of Scotland, there is a chance Carlisle might get soomething out of that.
  3. I am slightly sceptical about this band of ppn set to make its way over from midnight to 3am. By the time its got over the Pennines I think alot of it will have broken up by the time it reaches us with the exception of higher ground as usual.
  4. I am yet too see it mate - could you explain further, cheers.
  5. Local forecasts definetly worth keeping an eye on considering the national weather dont have us in the script. Also nw radars and the forum will be very useful - learn alot more here anyhow.
  6. I think the latter statement is probably correct. I'm gonna stop gbeing so disapointed by things now, I said all along that being an easterly we woud'nt get anything from this so I should'nt be suprised. Just so many times that pretty much the whole of the country gets a decent snowfall and the north west misses out again - thats what bothers me.
  7. Its extremely disapointing to find the absolute shear and utter negligence and incompetence of the forecasters. In the latest forecast: South-east england South-west England The Midlands Eastern England North east England Scotland Ireland all got a mention. THE WORDS NORTH-WEST OF ENGLAND WAS NOT DID NOT PASS THE FORECASTERS LIPS.
  8. Great to see the guys on the se/east anglia forum having fun (over 4 pages when I last checked!)
  9. Totally agree although thats because it is high ground (West Pennine moors.)
  10. Well seperated light snow showers that have provided a very slight dusting. In Dan Corbett terms: "Like someone has sprinkled icing sugar on a cake." All the same I was'nt expecting any snowfall until tomorrow so the fact that snow has fallen at all is a real supise to me, although I'm not expecting to wake up to much different than what we have now.
  11. In the n24 forecast I saw the north west did'nt even get a mention so thats intersting!
  12. After watching the latest bbc weather forecast on bbc news 24 I was astounded/dissapointed to see: (1) How the north-west does'nt even get a mention in the forecast. (2) As far as the graphics are concerned no major snow forecasted for the majority of nw England. Woud be nice for them to give us a mention - alot of people live here that would like to now.
  13. In fairness alot of the snow falling around the north west has been a real suprise and a real bonus. If we were going to get any I was expecting it to come more Monday/Tuesday time.
  14. I was having a chat with snowdrifter in which we were discussing 'snow events' in north west England and how (with the exception of high ground) we don't favour to well. He mentioned the Feb 1996 event - when a band of rain coming from the west clashed with a pool of extremely cold air from the east producing real, proper 'HEAVY' snow. This is the type of system the nw relies on for proper snowfall, they happen occasionally but they are usually preceeded by rain and mild air fairly quickly. Being an easterly we are not in a favourable location for any deent precipitation over the enxt few days - some areas may recieve a dusting or a cm or two but no more than that. They can produce good amounts of snow here but I just don't believe that this one is potent enough. Hot*Snow
  15. All the forecasts ive seen don't seem to favour the north west (apart from high ground) as far as sunday/monday is concerned, with anything comeing from the east petering out after the penines. Any snowfall after monday will be light and squally in nature. So yes some areas will 'see' snow but nothing that serious. At the end of the day this is an easterly event with any sunstantial snowfall affetcing central and eastern england.
  16. I know i'm sating the obvious but this time tomorrow things will be a lot clearer.
  17. I was thinking that there are'nt many lancashire based forummers here. Suprising considering the density of population. Totally agree wih you mate it can be really frustrating in the north west at times. Weve had so many promising situations in the past that have never produced. Easterlies that never get over the pennines, northerlies that for some beknown reason completely avoid us altogether, weak north westerlies fronts that produce minimal ppn, or mild sectors that turn snow to rain! I'l stick my neck out and say this is slightly more promising than usual - purely due to the fact that this has been a noticeably colder winter in comparison to recent years.
  18. Sorry no offence meant - It was a tongue in cheek remark to be fair, If you look at my posts since I joined a couple of days ago: (1) I have always played down what the north west will get in terms of snowfall. (2) Given honest and realistic accounts and views based on my personal knowledge and most iportantly- experience. (3) Not begrudged those in more favourable locations to myself. (4) Constantly reminded people not to get carried away with snow depths, chances, etc until just before the event takes place. (5) Tried to be light hearted and friendly - trying to enjoy what is a rare time. Let's stay focused guys and try to enjoy what enfolds before us, Hot*Snow
  19. Yeah the bbc are still being edgy in their forecasts - can't really blame them.
  20. ian just want too say that as far as the nw is concerned I think you are in the best poition for decent snowfall.
  21. Time: 2045 Currently 0.9 degrees celsius and falling, mostly cloudy and cold.
  22. Haha that one made me chuckle!! Yeah I think Saddleworth will get a good dumping. I hate to say it but most parts of the north west (away from high ground) will be lucky to get a covering up to a cm or two. So sorry guys but were just not in the right part of the country. Gutted.
  23. Yeah but your on higher ground so will always got more than the majority of people who live on low lying ground. Its quite obvious.
  24. In this case it is really difficult to predict how much snowfall the nw of England. I really do believe that after sw england we are the second worst location for significant snow in england (not the UK.) Each year some areas do experience either light snow showers giving a covering that may last a day at most or snow preceeded by rain coming from the west after a period of cold conditions. Sad really.
  25. I'm sure BBC weathers Danny Corbett would have no problem coining a new phrase! He comes out with some absolute crackers. "Like a sponge soaking up some milk" I heard this week - explaining how cloud is preceded by clear conditions!
