If the A37 had a thick covering I bet it would be fun to ski down into shepton mallet! Or same for the other side down from the mast on bristol hill into wells! drunk.gif

Lack of a chair lift back up would be a pain though! laugh.png

Need to invest in some snow dogs!

W COUNTRY Longer range prospects continue to firm-up on a notably cold spell into the next fortnight with a periodic risk of snow increasing

  2. just down the road from (and up the hill) from you, and it's blowing a hooley here, gusts well over 50 mph, and it sounds like a non-stop roar!....Squall line's probably a couple or so hours away, and will no doubt bring some flooding to low-laying nearby areas, Chippenham, parts of Swindon, Calne etc

Indeed is very windy. Flooding will be the main issue, For example

Tsunami warning issued for Hawaii following magnitude 7.7 earthquake off west coast of Canada

    http://news.blogs.cn...f-canada-coast/

[update 1:45 a.m.] Here's a recap: A large quake has hit off the coast of Canada. We have just received news that a tsunami warning has been issued as far as Hawaii. If you know you're in an evacuation zone in Hawaii, you need to pack up and move out.

In a little less than three hours, about 10:38 Hawaii time, the first waves will hit Hawaii.

What areas of Hawaii? The towns of Kahului and Hilo are likely to see a succession of waves. The shorelines will be dangerous for a couple of hours. "Basically this tsunami is pointed right at us," said Gerard Fryer, senior geophysicistat the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

A team of Italian scientists have been found guilty of manslaughter for failing to warn citizens of a massive earthquake in 2009.

The team along with a government official were sentenced to six years in jail in a trial which has infuriated the global scientific community.

Historic buildings cracked and crumbled in the 6.3 magnitude quake in which 309 died and thousands were left homeless in the town of L'Aquila in central Italy.

But the following year there was another aftershock. Charges were brought against six government scientists and an official for not sufficiently warning people of the risks of another seismic event.

The seven accused had been part of the region's Major Risks Committee which had met on March 31, six days before the earthquake.

They issued a statement designed to reassure residents after studying tremors in the area, while stressing it was impossible to say when another event may occur.

In court, prosecutor Fabio Picuti said they had given "an incomplete, inept, unsuitable and criminally mistaken analysis."

Defence lawyers said the charges in L'Aquila were 'medieval', arguing that earthquakes cannot be predicted. Five thousand scientists from around the world sent a letter of protest to the then Italian president Giorgio Napolitano.

Legal experts say the convicted men are likely to remain free from jail until an appeals process is completed.

Questions have to be asked, Is this going to stop scientists wanting anything to do with looking into potential earthquakes?

Has this set a dangerous precedent? Does this sort of thing bring the ability to sue scientists for not predicting?

Will other country's follow suit? Our is this just crazy italians?
