  1. Why not everywhere, we may as well have 5ft at all elevations while we're at it
  2. The 850s over the North Sea were actually above 0°C for a time in that event! They'll be about -6 for a time tomorrow, hence the marginality, and the 528 DAM line retreats to Northumberland for a few hours in the morning, but places in the SE are still reporting snow despite not being under the 528 DAM line any more. I'm more optimistic than I was during that rain shower a couple of hours ago as it is now snowing quite heavily, and the flakes can't be that wet as they're just sitting on the car windscreen without melting.
  3. If it rains in Newcastle I may have to get a bus to Consett to see what its like, if they're running of course!
  4. Not really, you might hear the rain lashing against the window When its silent you get your hopes up for snow, and pray not to be disappointed!
  5. And don't forget east facing high ground in the NE is predicted much higher totals than East Anglia was!
  6. Definitely snow showers here now, but I'm sure that I wasn't mistaken when I said it rained earlier as I even opened the front door to check.
  7. Sleety rain if I remember correctly - you could probably search for the old thread if you want to be reminded of it. Tonight is much colder though, Consett will do well this time around.
  8. What made it worse was that the rest of the country kept the lying snow, so the media were still all hyped up on the 3rd, whilst here it was several degrees above freezing with puddles from the overnight rain.
  9. They were when forecasting the similar system in Feb 2009 and it wasn't even sleety, just heavy rain!
  10. Stopped now. I still think it spells bad news for tomorrow unless the heavy precipitation can bring the temperature back down, I suppose the showers tonight are light.
  11. Now its hail, I can hear it rattling against the window!
  12. Back to wet snow here, but its definitely a wet sleety mix, not hail or grauple.
  13. If its raining now it'll be even warmer rain tomorrow I'm afraid. Look outside now and enjoy it while you can.
  14. I certainly won't be surprised tbh. The snow is already thawing here now, I think my street is looking a bit slushier than it did a couple of hours ago.
  15. Conditions tonight are about as marginal as the evening of the 28th Nov 2010, when I was anticipating a thaw at low levels. The 29th brought school closures, thundersnow, and 15cm of fresh snow here, although it was wet. Tomorrow is a completely different setup, but it shows that we can sometimes do well right out to the coast even when it looks this marginal. There's some droplets of water on my window, I hope we haven't just had a RAIN shower, I wasn't looking when whatever it was went through!
  16. March 1979 was a good one too, 50cm in the centre of Newcastle, although it lasted twice as long as this one is predicted to. I still agree that somewhere high up should be looking at very large totals, unfortunately it looks marginal at low levels. If I get 30mm+ of rain its going to be gutting, knowing I was so close to a spectacular event!
  17. Upland parts of NE England could be seeing twice that - or at least the precipitation charts were showing 10-15mm of rain equivalent down there, and 30-40mm up here.
  18. Hopefully tomorrow goes well, but I already have my beady eye on Wednesday for some typical North Sea snow if it doesn't.
  19. The stuff in the southern North Sea is heading north - don't forget there is some circulation as this is a small area of low pressure.
  20. Proper light snow shower now, and there looks to be a fair few forming in the North Sea ahead of tonight's front.
  21. Do you really have a foot already? There wasn't much more than 2-3 inches in the A69 to your north, and it does rise to ~150m asl.
  22. I'd be pretty excited if I lived on higher ground tonight, the higher County Durham towns will do very well from this. There is some very light snow falling here and it seems quite wet to me.
  23. I don't have to leave the house until about 11 tomorrow morning, so that's plenty time to dry my eyes and compose myself if I wake up to rain
