  1. About an inch and a half so far, still coming down moderately with fairly big flakes.
  2. I'd say it's been varying between heavy and moderate tonight. At 5pm ish you couldn't see the park which is one block away from me.
  3. Don't forget the radar doesn't always give a 100% view as snow seems to confuse it. Wednesday didn't look very potent on the radar but it was easily the heaviest snow shower I have seen this year.
  4. I think it's pretty unusual for frontal snow to be heavier than North Sea snow showers anywhere, but a snow shower will drop maybe a couple of inches in half an hour whereas frontal snow can give over 6 inches over the course of entire day, although the North East rarely does very well out of these events compared with some places such as West Yorkshire.
  5. The flakes are quite small here now, at least we had big flakes earlier on this evening for around an hour.
  6. Well I'm happy with my 3cm or so, sometimes we get nothing from an Atlantic front and there looks to be a bit more to come yet.
  7. Almost stopped here, got a decent cover though. Hopefully there is another heavy burst on its way!
  8. OK, maybe not very heavy as that would be 4"+ an hour, but its certainly heavy rather than moderate, although the flakes aren't as big as they were half an hour ago. I still think we will get about 2 inches all in which isn't bad, although it won't be looking as fresh by the morning!
  9. To be fair its coming down very heavily at the moment, as I said I have about an inch of fresh snow and its only been sticking for about an hour.
  10. After playing the radar through a few times I have to agree with what NickR is saying, although we could still get an inch or two this evening as the precipitation looks moderate at least and its settling readily.
  11. I think we could get a couple of inches from this, it looks quite potent for a time this evening, but of course that'll all be turning to slush by this time tomorrow.
  12. I don't think being close to the North Sea will be as much of a problem on Friday as the winds will no longer be blowing onshore.
  13. Still dripping/thawing very slightly here, so it can't be much below 0 if at all. About 1-2cm fell overnight making it feel rather wintry again. Friday is looking pretty interesting for some heavy snow, but I must admit I'm looking forward to a milder spell next week!
  14. The thawing seems to have stooped now thanks to some cold temperatures finally! Friday is looking interesting for one more round of heavy snow before the milder air moves in for a while.
  15. Heavy snow showers for a time this morning, but a thaw has set in once more this afternoon. This winter (so far) won't be remembered by me as being as severe as either 09/10 or 10/11, but has certainly been one of the snowier ones in the last 20 years, and a far cry from last year! Of course that might change if we get a severe spell in February...
  16. I measured 18cm in the middle of the lawn, but its more like 15cm on the grass generally, and less on pavements obviously.
  17. Not much really, but the trees are no longer pasted. Overall this year has been about average for snow, but this particular spell has been very good.
