  1. I agree - they shouldnt have shut the schools last week and definitely not today.................... The roads have never been 'that bad' - I got stuck 3 times last week on hills but I still got to my locations everytime. If all these teachers didnt get paid for not turning up then im sure you'd find a different story. If you have to walk to work or school then so be it......its all part of the fun. 90% of kids dont need to use transport - its just their parents choose to drive them - only in remote rural areas that may be difficult. This country has gone soft..............
  2. Quite Impressed this morning with the amount of snow overnight at home location DY3....... 3-4cms of frsh snow overnight and the most snow ive had to clear off my car during the last week! Granted not as icy but there is a good layer of additional snow......my garden now has close to 8cms in total - probably as deep as its been all week - and no thaw. However I have drove to work in Willenhall / walsall and the snow depth is less - probably due to early rain turning to snow last night........and its thawing here. I think they should have kept the warnings out as in certain locations - the sideroads are yet again very poor - think its more to do now with where you live due to marginal temps.......
  3. hummm think maybe a decent covering by the morning in the slightly higher parts
  4. definitely more showers to come yet in DY3 not snowing now but everything covered which wasnt before - gritters will be busy tonight a week of decent lying snow would be quite rare!
  5. covering of snow in sedgley / dudley from an hour ago and no visible thaw...........roads are a mess again - can see it being icy by the morning here.
  6. Exactly what most want I think and most of our biggest snowfalls have came this way........10-20cms tuesday night fissling out as snow over our region wednesday morning. Even if daytime temps rise to 2-3c - that amount of snow will take some shifting. We have become complacent with ultra low temps recently 2-3c is still pretty cold as a day time max.
  7. Dan Corbett is suggesting significant snow for the west side of the mids tues night into wednesday on BBC/CF forecast......hummmmm... we'll see
  8. grrrr looks like another disappointing end to a promising set of snow events..........looked so good this time yesterday...... Not getting my hopes up for Tuesday/Wednesday now prob end up as heavy sleet and 2c I think it will definitely need to come through the night time for anything to happen. Only positive is the roads are mainly ok for driving now.
  9. Watched it and it seemed so vague tbh........ although a big let down at the moment - it could all turn around so quickly - personally I think most of the forecasters are not entirely sure what is going to happen!
  10. Snowing lightly in Sedgley and dosent look that (wet) - sticking to cars etc. If its starts raining by me then most parts are in trouble lol (except the major hilly areas of course!). I hope I havent got my hopes up for nothing again - however some of the best snowfalls do seem to come from nowhere......... right best check those radars lol
  11. very interested period coming up - just upgraded my subscription to full - even though some if of it is abit beyond my knowledge hummm -well everyone has to learn. Nothing really has thawed in my location in the last few days - (roofs thawed a little but thats due to building heat obviously)........had a walk over sedgley beacon earlier and there is a good 10cms of level snow! North Mids (Dudley northwards) could do well out of the next 36 hour spell. I think snow amounts could be vastly different over the midlands so a forecasters nightmare. Been let down too many times with these atlantic fronts so relying more onto getting decent falls in the next 48 hours tbh.
  12. Just shows how things turn around so quickly.................... Thought we were going to be having hardly any snowfall yesterday - now check the met warnings and tomorrow, monday and wednesday look like proper snow days.......10-20cms in places on Monday (although for some reason east wales and east mids are highlighted in orange and west mids is just yellow lol). This is looking very tasty indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hummm 10-15 cms of snow showers by monday evening and then an atlantic blizzard on wednesday with a further 30cms of snow - hummmm now that would be something special!!!
  13. Yes I just watched the 10am weather is its looks promising for the whole of southern and central england tomorrow tbh.........5-10cms in general...... oh yer a nice heavy snow shower passing through!!!!!!!!!! Is this going to be the year for the midlands lol!
  14. Dec 81/Jan82 brought the best for Snow in Shropshire - repeated atlantic fronts which didnt make it through so cold was retained........read some articles on this and the pics are amazing - Bridgnorth road was totally blocked. Atlantic Breakdowns always seem to bring the best snowfalls for the West Midlands/staffs/shropshire but it never hangs around more than a few days due to eventual milder weather coming in (apart from 81 when it appears it didnt).....................this could happen later next week! its always a marginal affair. Personally id rather have 1 week of blizzards and 30cms falls then 4 weeks of snow flurries and 5cms tbh.......sunday, looking at the models we are going to get prolonged light snow which will give us a couple of cms at most?? Jan 87, December 1990 and Feb 96 stand out in my mind as the best snow events in the west over the last 25 years. Also that fairly freak march event in 95 was a good one - only predicted at the last minute but North of Birmingham got 6 inches in a short space of time - I can remember cars getting abandoned in Sedgley that night. Feb 91 was the only occasion when Easterlies brought major snow that I can remember - most other times have been small affairs similar to what we have now. I WANT BIG SNOWFALLS GRRRRRRRRRRR lol.
  15. oh bugger - no significant snow for the foreseeable future.................................
  16. looking the best time now for the Midlands in terms of snowfall!!! BBC have said 2-5cms tomorrow am in some parts of the high ground and then the snow event on Sunday..... btw - who saw the pics earlier on mids today of the snow in Shropshire in 1982!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeezzzzzz------cars completely covered by drifts......that was some snowfall - makes now look like a dusting lol. Its actually quite weird at the moment - Shropshire and North Staffs (excluding Derbyshire peaks!!!) are usually the snowiest counties in the Mids.......with places like Worcs and Gloucestershire often getting rain but on this occasion the south mids has faired better due to the type of conditions. !
  17. Ive drove around quite abit over the last 48 hours and the roads are mainly ok - yes slippy and you need to take care but imho - its abit of a joke why so many people took the day off yesterday (schools closing is an easy way out!).......I live on higher ground (750ft) with steep sloping roads all around but you can get around no problem........on level roads its fine. If anything yesterday was fine with the snow - this morning with the ice layer was probably more tricky............ Pavements are slippy but its overhyped in this area - I would say the West Midlands is one of the least affected areas in England......... Wait until the fun and games on the weekend - that potentially could be alot more severe for us.
  18. Based on the comments it seems the Midlands has been one of the least affected areas in terms of snowfall / extreme cold to date. Fairly Cold December (coldest since 95-96) and temps were exceptionally cold last night but there have been several winters in the last 25 years more severe in the West Midlands areas........snowfall/wind/temps. Compared to what others have told me - this is NOWHERE near as severe as 47,63 or 81 for this area but as a UK whole I suppose it could be a different story as its very widespread this year.......87/91/95 I can also remember being harser in this region. Its rare the south coast ever gets snow!
  19. Me too??? Shawbury in Shropshire recorded -26C in 1981......................... So birmingham would have been at least -20ish id have thought on the same night back then............
  20. All about keeping an eye on the weekend activities now
  21. Im currently working in Wolverhampton so north/west of Birmingham........ stopped around an hour ago now and fairly bright. Overall not a bad fall - was looking grim last night but to be honest - seem to have had a fair bit in the night and this morning. Going to finish work early today and head up Sedgley Beacon - il try and get a few snaps Hopefully more snow the weekend!!!
  22. Looking Great Outside now - sky is clearing and looking bright...... Cold one tonight me thinks!
  23. Around the black country probably the best snow since Dec 2000 and its still snowing........ In terms of the 90s though - it has a fair old way to go yet BUT the longer this cold spell continues - us snow lovers could be in for a treat...... Snowing quite abit now - made it into work as the roads were ok - fairplay to the gritters out there - they have done a good job! Totals around 9-11cms on the grass in Sedgley I want us to break the magic 30cms - wishful thinking I know but thats the deepest I have seen in my lifetime (28) during the late 80s lol. Radio WM says -10 tonight in the black country too
  24. Just got in from the gym and the roads are getting dicey now - travelling 4 miles and took me 20 mins and they closed the gym at half 8 lol........ around 8cms or so now in sedgley/gornal/brierley hill areas so not bad - but the roads are bad for this amount of snow (you'd think we'd have 8 inches!) - only assuming gritters will be out once the snow has stopped otherwise madness in the morning. Still snowing slightly - more to come - I surely hope so
