  2. Yes I was referring to the bbc forecast which was a downgrade from last night, can I ask two things of someone... 1. Can someone post a link to the favourble charts mentioned above and 2. Excuse me for being a nimby and a majority of one, but do people think tonight's snow showers will make it over th Pennines to east cumbria? I am fed up with being the only person in th UK with a green lawn. Cheers, Andy
  3. Yes, shower activity predicted to be less this morning particulary west of the Pennines. Oh well I could always cut the grass Andy
  4. Not sure if I belong in this thread as Penrith is to the west of the Pennines but is in the far north of England. After missing the frontal snow tomorrow I am hoping to cash in on some North sea activity on Saturday, despite being west of the Pennines East Cumbria often has potent snow showers from the east if the cold is deep enough. 10cms-15cms was obtained in January and December 2010 on an easterly, small beer compared to places further east but it was very welcome here. On 15th Fenruary 1979 Penrith recorded 30cms of snow in 24 hours from a strong easterly flow, God knows what it was like in Durham! Nick, I wouldnt worry about the dewpoints, surface temperatures will be low enough unless you live right on the coast despite the long sea track. More snow for you, you lucky bugger Andy
  5. Sorry Chris, I hadnt seem the updated NAE which is actually better for Nationwide snow than this morning. We shall see, but I agree its looking better for us Northerners than it was earlier today. Andy
  6. Good luck with it guys the front just cleared penrith at it was all rain despite temperature near freezing. Andy
  7. Light/moderate snow here in Penrith since 11am has left a dusting. Not sure what tonight will bring! Andy
  8. The MetO is now including Cumbria for the snow threat tomorrow evening. One to watch. Andy Hi, Do you have any lying snow in Carlisle? Where abouts in Carlisle are you? Cheers, Andy
  9. I dont care what the bookies say, to me if the ground is half or more covered with snow at 9am on Christmas Morning then its a white Christmas. My 9cms complete cover tomorrow morning certainly qualifies Andy
  10. Frequent moderate snow showers in Penrith this evening adding to the 6cms lying, hopefully that streamer will continue for a while yet. No reports from that endless streamer North of Carlisle although its moved south in the last two hours and given some heavy snow in the City. The area to the North of Carlisle has few areas of population, hence the lack of reports. Andy
  11. Hi Hail Sezier, Off topic. I am a long life Joy Division fan but my favourites are: 1. Decades 2. Heart & Soul 3. Atmosphere 4. LOve Will Tear Us Apart 5. Isolation. As you can see I am a bit of a 'Closer' fan. 30 years on and I still cant forget Joy Division. Andy
  12. I share your pain <_< Light snow here but the front is fragmenting quickly so looks like another disappointment. I am not going to watch TV in next 48 hours because I just couldnt stand hours of 'blizzard reports from around the UK' apart from the North West of course. Today should have been a sure bet for us with an active front coming in from the west, if it was mild this front would bring 30mm of rain but because its cold enough for snow its dying on its feet <_< Andy
  13. Reports of snow on the Cumbrian Coast now so it looks like temperature isnt a problem and any precipitation will be of snow. However, whether the precipitation reaches us at all remains to be seen. Andy
  14. I hope you are right Mark, the MetO graphics just dont match the radar or even what the presenters are saying! It could drive you to drink  Andy
  15. The latest graphics on News24 show the snow fragmenting quickly across the North West with most of the snow going through the Midlands Yet the radar shows the snow heading straight for us. I give up  Andy
  16. This is my take on this for this evening. The band of snow moving in from the west will affect most of the North West with the best snowfall in the Lake District, East Lancashire and Manchester areas, outside these areas there are two dangers. In my own part of East Cumbria the danger is that the snow will fragment across the Lake District mountains and be patchy, the other problem is for coastal areas of the Region where snow might struggle to settle at sea level so places like Blackpool could be marginal, however, even a bit of altitude or distance from the sea will reduce this risk so inland parts of Merseyside and Lancashire should do O.K. If I had to pick a spot tonight for the best snow it would be the South Lakes (Winderemere area), East Lancashire and North/East Manchester. Andy
  17. Thanks Mark, Viewing the North West thread on NW this week has kept be sane because the pain of repeatedly missing the snow is shared My family in Birmingham have had 4 seperate snowfalls this week with another expected tonight and yet another on Monday night, hopfully this evening will at least turn my lawn white but I have a nagging doubt and it could all go wrong. Andy
  18. Hi Guys, This is my first post on NW and hopefully this evening will deliver for the North West after the most frustrating week I have ever know. Its now or never for the North West. Fingers crossed. Andy
