  1. -2.3c here and like an ice rink out side, after todays rain we need the snow to deliver tomorrow!!
  2. yes that can be the case, and showers can be a hit and miss affair, this situation looks like delivering organised bands of showers and perfect sypnotics to produce snow, as tonights event was marginal for our area and a polar low developing is not out of the question in this kind of set up
  3. look at all the snow showers clustered into north and west scotland, they need to come our way in an organised band, even the western isles are at 0c or 1c next to the sea...
  4. tomorrow will have no warm sector being sucked in ahead of a front, we are now in an arctic airmass DP's lower now and a 4 degree drop in temps being shown in an hour in places after the front has gone through i knew this would rain, however im hopefull for tomorrow delivering
  5. my temp was 3.7c in the band and when it cleared it fell to 1c and light snow flurries, its now -0.5 and frozen the rain all over!! wait for the arctic air to move accross you
  6. looking at xc wind map, even the bouys around the north around scotland are showing temps of only 1c to 2c and thats over the sea!! very cold airmass moving south fingers crossed for snow in the NW tomorrow !!!!
  7. some very cold nights showing up next week, minus double figures brrrrr with a slack flow and the cold air staying at the surface, but the upper air temps do not support any snow freezing rain likely especially towards midweek
  8. well all the rain has frozen over rapidly its not safe out the front door, and thrown some salt out! hoping for some snow tomorrow its our best chance with a nw arctic origin airflow, and no mild sectors!!! low 850's low DP's and maximum surface around 0- +2c tomorrow even near the coast!! fingers crossed!!!
  9. conditions are favourable for polar low formation, keep watching the satellite images, northern ireland to the east, sw scotland and NW england look at risk from very significant snowfall through sunday and organised bands of snow in areas with drifting a possibilty in the strong winds
  10. well we had very heavy rain, temp reached 3.8c and when it cleared south turned to very light snow behind and the temp fell 2.7 degrees to 1c in about 15 mins!! hope we will see some snow tomorrow its looking good for organised bands to crop up in this situation
  11. typical band cleared south, and light snow behind it temp was 3.8c 20mins ago now 1.1 !!!
  12. rain band broken up by the time the polar air undercuts it will have cleared here
  13. very heavy rain here, i knew there would be no snow, i just travelled form kendal to workington (65 miles) with only sleet/snow on shap and rain elsewhere maybe next time eh.......

  17. becoming very gusty here, expecting the strongest winds between 9-12, again netweather nailed it with 70+mph gusts forecast, met o well
  18. gfs 18z run still going for a quite a severe storm tomorrow with a very tight pressure gradient on its southern flank, coming across northern ireland into south west scotland and over to northern england with gusts around 70-75mph possible could be some damage.. rob mcelwee never mentioned any wind tomorrow really strange maybe the gfs has over cooked it as usual ?? plus met office no mention of warnings for wind
  19. stormy is the word to sum up the present conditions, wind averaging 37-40mph for the last few hours and gusts between 55-65mph. its 8c and the rain thankfully has stayed north of cumbria for the moment wrapped round the low..
  20. wednesday the next day to watch, if the gfs keeps this idea we will be looking at quite a dangerous storm system only 48 hours to go downgrade likely? well it cant upgrade or there will be another gfs hurricane which never comes off... im off work for a week after tuesday interesting first day off wednesday!! todays storm had a slight downgrade by the gfs on its 18z run from the 12z run, never the less it is very windy here with force 8 mean speeds on the coast and gusts 55-65mph noisy night for sleeping
  21. very windy here now, the roof is creaking and the chimmney is screaming in the gusts nasty night... tuesday into wednesday is more like it a powerful atlantic storm, giving gusts 70-80mph possible 90mph but thats a few days away yet
  22. sorry john, just read there updated warnings for cumbria 60mph gusts and in excess of 70mph on exposeds coasts
