  1. vicious looking storm now moving towards us, i thought bellmullet would be alot windier at present but i think the storm is just going to be moving over ireland over the next few hours, gusts touching 60mph over western ireland now. gfs 00z has kept the intensity of the storm of not slightly more intense. expect very heavy hail and thunder showers with this system and squally gusts over 70mph with damage, we dont need anymore rain here in cumbria and its not looking good and with the trees sitting in saturated ground with severe gales, not a good combination....
  2. met office have max mean winds for my town at 43mph and gusts in the afternoon 70mph (68mph) (town forecasts) so severe gales are being forecast, and yet they have no mention of it, quite fantastic satellite images now off the west of ireland
  3. weatheronline mentioning 70-80mph gusts and metcheck mention 75mph, wheres the met office at with this? they are supposed to be doing us a 'service'
  4. angry looking off ireland right now, interesting to see wind gusts over western ireland as storm approaches irish met going for 100-120kmh gusts
  5. 60mph capel curig 70mph aberdaron could be quite a wind event this storm, warnings are poor
  6. expecting met office to issue one soon?! metcheck have severe warning about further rainfall and also this at the end more like it. In addition to this, gales or severe gales gusting up to 75mph will affect Ireland and areas adjacent to the Irish Sea during Sunday.
  7. just had a thunderstorm go through, two flashes of lightning and very heavy rain, its 8c and a strong southerly wind. i bet you will be recording some strong gusts tomorrow gfs going for 85km/h mean speeds near isle of man
  8. gfs 18z run showing a potent low moving west across us during sunday and no doubt damaging winds for some, northern ireland, southern scotland, north west england and wales, wouldnt be surprised to see exposed locations reporting gusts in excess of 70mph and not really a warning to state the wind strength as yet. vicious looking storm winding up now, sting jet happening?
  9. the met office did mention it in the advisory for sunday it will become very windy with 60mph gusts, there forecast for my town has mean speeds of 42mph and gusts 60-65mph and interesting sunday coming up, and more heavy showers for flood hit areas up here the environment agency have said in the last half hour river levels are rising again.
  10. nasty little low for sunday, surprised not many warnings about this system yet, 75mph gusts likely in places looking at the gfs 12z and 50-60mph inland gusts
  11. breeze picking up, 6c clouded over dark skies looming over cumbria again and i hope the rain radar echos are not white and red when they reach cumbria
  12. what a disaster in parts of the county, its hard to beleive watching your local towns on the news, transport is severely effected roads under water the mian trunk road out of cumbria east A66 to the M6 motorway is shut becasuse bassenthwaite lake has over flowed and a bridge near keswick has collapsed and the rubble is directing the flow over the road. i went out for a drive and it took me 1.5 hours to travel a distance which would normally take 20 mins!! theres sheds and structures floating down the rivers and i saw some large round bales of silage scattered about also, reports say 7 bridges have been washed away in the area it is a complete disaster. and the forecast is not good tomorrow with 50mm more rain with no where to go or saturate into apart from the rivers...on top of that gales again, and sunday has the risk of severe gales and with the ground so wet the trees are at risk of being uprooted, not a good outlook into next week either. i have a feeling the flooding may not be over although the volume of rain will not match the last 24hours, any rain now is to much there is just no where for it to go... autumn/winter 09/10 may prove to be an exceptional one for rainfall and storms. stay safe all
  13. we have been battered today in cumbria, gales and flooding rains the wind has eased now, but the rain is still falling im lucky i live in a elevated postition, my thoughts are with those people who are now being evacuated 8 miles away in cockermouth in darkness as the power has been lost there. no let up in sight yet as the radars show more rainfall on the conveyorbelt of cloud. most roads affected in one way and many are cut off, it is worse than january 2005 for the water levels, shocking scenes no doubt at dawn tomorrow. anyone interested in listening to the updates form local radio cumbria http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/cumbria/hi/tv_and_radio/
  14. what a day it has been here, gales have caused some damage in my elevated position on the coast and most importantly the flooding which is still ongoing and is going to get alot worse imo looking at met o rainfall radar another pulse of heavy rain to come, very worrying times indeed my mum was evacuated from her work today at 3pm in cockermouth. the rain keeps falling and the water rising a very serious situation already will become extreme overnight with the forecast rainfall amounts.... river derwent at 930am today this is about 3 miles from cockermouth you can see the fields well and truely under water
  15. a very windy day here windiest so far this autumn, with mean speed of 43mph at 2pm with gusts over 60mph its still windy now but has eased alot. and still the rain is falling, 8 miles away form here there is raf helicopters rescuing people in cockermouth where reports say the water is rising 4 ft per hour!!! and im not liking the look of the radar http://www.raintoday.co.uk/...... long night for alot of people jan 2005 floods all over again inplaces im not sure about my 65 mile commute to work in the morning to kendal!!
  16. extremely windy here now gusts over 60mph branches are coming off in the strongest gusts, no let up in the rain yet cumbria is in a bad state right now and the worse is to come
  17. although a sight to see and feel, 90mph winds in built up areas would result in fatalities
  18. gusts getting on for 60mph here, expecting that to increase further this afternoon as the wave moves ne and tightens the gradient. very heavy bursts of rain and on the verge of major flooding in places in cumbria. 11.6c
  19. very stormy here now southerly gales means of 40mph, reports of trees down 15 miles form here, been out on the roads and some are impassable now due to flooding and branches. gfs 6z showing very tight pressure gradient this afternoon up the irish sea with severe gales and storms (which wales is experiancing now. hold on everyone and stay safe out there.
  20. very wet at the moment, and has become very windy in the last half hour 11c
  21. very stormy looking for the next 24 hours or so, im living in the area expecting the most rainfall 100-250mm im lucky im in a elevated postition here near the coast, however the severe gales will be more of a worry where i live weatheronline say 80-90mph gusts tomorrow??!! i cant see that....60-70mph possible stay safe all those who are under the met office dark red extreme weather warnings
  22. how long can the gfs scare us with that storm at the weekend, surely it will downgrade to a more typical looking situation? or maybe not as im sure that would be another january 2005 situation with 90-100mph gusts on the cumbrian coast where mature trees and chimney stacks were scattered around!! 24 hours later the gfs is still going for a sub 960mb low, with the ecm now showing a deep low, if that came off there would be storm 10 winds around coasts and severe gales quite a way inland. before the weekend we have the next 2 or 3 days to worry about in regards to flooding and severe gales on thursday, looking at the fields and rivers they cant hold much more water, first time this autumn ive worried about the weather!! as my commute is 60 miles to work. also that shallow surface low thursday looks like creating a tight pressure gradient as it moves ne, expect warnings to include severe gales during the next 24 hours as gfs going for mean wind speeds over the irish sea 45-52mph, and 35-40mph just inland and gusts in excess of 60-65mph likely. a very interesting if worrying 3-4days and im hoping that storm is a gfs fantasy!!!
  23. very windy here with sw gales, 8c and a few showers
  24. O M G just come home to look at the pressure on the gfs through the week, cant beleive that monster for saturday!! 70mph sustained winds for the isle of man/irish sea and 55mph sustained winds for my area even 20 miles inland its showing severe land gales...if (big if) it was to come off we would be looking at 90-100mph gusts and MAJOR damage but i am hoping for a downgrade even though i like a storm that one makes scary viewing
  25. thursday is looking quite worrying, with an intense low passing between scotland and iceland and a steep pressure gradient over the uk with severe gales and storms likely over a wide area...met office already have advisory out 4 days in advance
