Cloudy with current temp of 2.6c.
Light breeze and feels much colder than it is.
-
If the colds coming back I wish it would hurry up.
It is amazing though that after a few days now of 7c to 10c temps the canal still has ice on it in places. The poor ducks don't know whether to walk or swim.
-
I would love some more snow, but if no snows on offer please please can this horrid rain go away. Got soaked and muddy walking dog yesterday and today.
All the snow here is gone but the canal is still frozen.
Some of the model thread I people sound cautiously hopeful about Wednesday.
-
someone is saying on the southwest thread that temp has dropped rapidly in plymouth
i think that IF the band gets here at all it will definetly snow because temps will be low enough later
Ok sounds good, fingers and legs crossed then.
Just checked and have a dew point of 0c, so not far for that to have to drop.
Mind over matter.......snow.....snow.....here snow, come on here snow.

Feels bitterly cold in the wind but the sensor is reading 1.7c. The laying snow is melting, even the compacted ice/snow was easy to shift this morning. There is still a lot of snow on the ground. The canal is still frozen over.
Walking the dog this morning the surface was a real mix, difficult in places, puddles, slush, ice and crunchy snow.
I don't really think we will see anything out of the band that's coming, well not snow anyway. Still things can change quite quickly so I can hope.

I know this is off-topic but... It must be great living on a canal boat How much does it cost to buy one? Also how do you keep it warm in conditions like this and where do you get hot water from etc...
Hi andy didn't want to clutter the thread so have answered your questions via PM

Sensor reading 1.9c not much thawing happening today though, it's strange that at similar temps yesterday it was thawing. We have had almost constant sizzle this morning but nothing much falling now.
I broke some of the ice around the boat this morning, it took a hefty iron bar to do it, the ice is about 3 inches thick near the boat so will be thicker towards the center of the canal. We have about an inch of clear water around the hull.
I'm really hoping the new snow makes it this far inland, looking at the charts posted it doesn't look like it will quite make us.

Still snowing here but Its dripping from the trees again and onto the roof. Temps 0.7c
-
Temps now down to 0.9c , I don't know what the dew point is.
It has been snowing for some time now, from just a few flakes and then back to quite big ones. The only problem is that I can still hear dripping on the roof in between the snow showers.
Its not pinched all my snow yet, I can see the grass peeping through. Come on snow make my grass all snowy white

Nice to see some optimism on here!
I'm sure things will get a bit better later and we should have a nice fresh wintry scene to wake up to tomorrow...even if the depths are no longer there.
Liked i said ealier, there could still be some surprises on the way. The situation isn't too far away from settling snow right now.
Even if we don't get anymore, it has been absolutely wonderful. There is still a lot more winter to come as people keep saying

My narrowboat has been locked in ice for days now and not rocking as normal, I have just noticed that it is moving again now. I've been outside and had alook I now have about an inch of free water between the hull and the ice.
-
Temp here at 1.6c did briefly go up to 2c.
The snow has been thawing steadily since earlier this morning, and is not being helped by the wet snow showers we are getting. I can hear the water dripping on the roof of the boat. There is a fairly cold feeling wind.
I'm sorry to see the snow go, I have really enjoyed it being here. Is this the end to the cold period and the snow or is it just a warmer blip and does this mean that the forecasted snow will not now be coming?
-
What a romantic you are!!What about the 3 inches of dirty sludge in the Bus station YMCA car park. The town centre looks just........Dirty.
lol Suppose I am. I live on a Narrowboat and I'm out in the countryside. I get woken up by the nearby cockerel and the singing birds. I'm well away from the dirty town stuff. I love this weather

What a brilliant start to the day, got up to walk the dog at 7am this morning to find a good top up of snow on the ground. All yesterdays foot prints completely gone and the canal ice is now covered by snow and looks like a road lol. The local fox thinks its great saw him last night walking down the canal on the ice, if he hadn't seem me and trotter off I think the chickens would be ex-chickens this morning.
Been snowing on and off all morning, big fluffy flakes followed by nice light blue sky.
Temp -0.2
Fantastic really can't believe how luck we have ben this time
-
We had a few clouds flying over earlier this afternoon, but clear sky now.
The met office map shows some snow reaching corby area but fading out about there.
-
-3.3c and falling brrrr
We have had full sun all day with a light breeze which has blow the snow of the trees. The canal is thick ice, a bloke was letting his dog walk on the ice, the ice is thick but its not something I would have risked.
Just check with bus company and if there is no snow tonight I'll be ok to go to Mum's in the morning. The bus is running today just missing out on some of the villages.
Must say not really looking forward to walking the dog at 6am.
-
Got down to -8.5c here last night.
Current temp -1.9c
I really hope we don't get any more snow until friday night, I have to go to visit my mother tomorrow. I was supposed to go on wednesday but Mum phone me and said it had been on local radio that the bus from Hinckley to Mkt Harborough had got stuck in the snow. It obviously carried on its usual route round the villages instead of sticking to the main roads.
Come Friday night I'll welcome a blizzard.
-
Ah Bliss lots of snow on the ground and a top up of snow this morning.
Outside sensor reading -1.1c already.
I keep seeing odd blips of snow on the radar, they seem to appear from no where, none of them quite making it to here.
-
Managed to get down to -6.6c here on the edge of Hinckley last night, current temp is -2.4c
I see that met office have the whole of midlands under an advisory, shame its just for icy roads. I think it should be for snow, those bands seem to go straight over us. Well its fingers crossed again.
-
Temp here 1.8c a few grains of snow on the ground, I've seen it whiter under a frost lol
The canal was frozen over this morning but the ice has been broken up by passing boats but not melting.
Getting depressed now at lack of snow, stupid I know as is such a lovely cold and sunny day.
-
Those of you getting snow, did you see a much temp rise before the snow arrived? If you did how high did it go and what did it drop back to?
I'm so pleased for you all, what a brilliant start to the new year.
-
Could really do without it snowing today got to go on a flight to portugal, and i know how crap the airports are :/
Where are you flying out from?
Where ever it is take a packed lunch and thermos for that long wait at the check in.
-
I know I'm a bit late but Happy New Year.
We actually had some snow yesterday evening, only a dusting but its is still on the ground. We have clouds coming over but nothing falling from them, have a current temp of 3c when the sun comes out. Had -3.5 last night and the canal is frozen over. Watched the swans walking on the ice this morning.
Looks like the band is going to miss us not dropping quite this far down.
Excellent winter so far lovely and cold.

weather09 & Shiny_bottom_1 thanks for the info and thanks for putting it in plain English. I actually understand what your saying, reading the model thread has me scampering all over the internet trying to fathom it all out, thanks again.

Just heard the local radio (Radio Leicester) forecast and according to them no snow for Leicestershire.
I keep hearing on the threads about a sustained cold spell so I've got my fingers crossed.
