    well the wind coming down the chimney indicates otherwise Scribbler .......seems to have picked up again ..........in the last 10 mins or so.But no doubt will die back again ..... But I am going to try and get some shut eye now .

    well i dozed off and then awoke to hear the wind gaily blowing away ............then thought it had died right down .Poked my head out of the front door and it is still roaring away quite nicely ............. well nicely enough.Hope everyone is safe ...........

    Down here in Wellington and Taunton we had it very calm with heavy rain .Just in the last 30-40 mins or so the wind has picked up ............

    AWD , posted a timing chart for the winds to arrive and we are on an overlap from 1am-7am or 5am 10pm.............. and yes the wind is picking up slightly too........could be a long night

    I have asked on t'other thread if there could be some sort of explanation for it ..........apparently in Barnstaple it is totally calm there too........... So ,either we have escaped it or it really is calm before the storm ............have to wait and see . Oh okay thank you AWD, I didn't see your earlier posts of the timings ......very interesting ...........

    In Wellington Somerset ,it is raining moderately --heavy .About an hour ago the wind started to pick up and now has dropped to nothing .Another poster who lives in Taunton(7miles a way) says it is like a mill pond too where they are............Any ideas as to why ?( not complaining btw about lack of wind just very curious ) as all around the wind is definitely picking up (Exeter not v far from us) .................

    Well this is interesting .......(sort of ) the wind an hour ago was picking up albeit slowly and now heavy rain but no wind at all..............is the real calm before the wind picks up again ?

    Heavy rain still and the wind just starting to pick up ,but v mild .Hope everyone stays safe tonight. PS Jay Wynne on bbc news channel has just said (and it differed from the 10.30 one) that gusts of 70 mph and 80 mph could be expected and it could intensify ......but he didn't seem to be area specific.(sorry)

    Well what a comparitive wealth of riches we are all having...............no more thunder -but hey can't complain .It might rumble around.It can have that effect round here ............. (yeah I'm ever the optimist!LOL)

    Wow cracking storm in Wellington!!!! superb, lovely looking clouds to the east sun shining to the west of me ,intense flickers and lovely deep rumbles .................not sure if it is moving away though now ......................... We will see clouds haven't really moved though d=so hopefully more to come . Seems to have stopped for now but clouds still around.

    Glad the south west in has some decent storms, it seems to be clearing here a bit but still humid.

    Where I work is near Exmoor -beautiful place for a storm or two.Sun had disappeared here ,but I think apart from rain(very welcome ) that could be it.Have a good one

    Yes ,I think they are .............looking black towards Taunton ,lovely towering clouds forming in the last hour and very humid .I think they could be in for some fun.

    Heavy rain here in Welly Somerset, now.A friend of mine in Newton Abbot said it had been raining steadily there this morning.

    the weather is certainly teasing us that's for sure.It feels very very warm and thundery here in Welly this afternoon.Some very interesting "cauliflower "towers seemed to be building up to mt North west ,but not really sure what's going on.......................Bright sunshine to my south but cloud to the north .We shall see......................... :-)

    well errr no was the answer and the few spots it produced have dried up.I'm either running a temperature or to me it feels horribly muggy again.But it is good to feel warmth again in the summer months so i can put up with it all!

    became rather muggy here and some lovely black clouds forming about 10 mins ago ,had a few bigs spots of rain and the sun popped out .Be interesting to see if it will trigger anything other than rain.

    Yes ,it has been very humid today here in Wellington .Very intense this afternoon and I thought at about 17.30 as a very large grey expanse of cloud appeared that we might get a rumble or two ..................however the windpicked up and that was it .Sun out ,cooler, breezier and blue skies.

    well hazysunshine here this morning ,wouldn't have knwn it had hammered down in the night . Glad you guys had fun in Bristol. I think that is it for us in Somerset.

    plenty going on down here in Somerset , very bright white lightning sheet and fork with dee rumbles of thunder.Keeps fading and then coming bsck rather nicely. Had a very brief 30 second intense rainfall (according to my Son) and then the thunder /lightning started .
