  1. Pretty dry, but also not too cool either, only 1 or 2 days this month haven't reached 20C.
  2. Really is gorgeous weather here at least. Unbroken sunshine all day. Woke up at 7:30 this morning to a beautiful morning, outside a slight chill in the air with 9C, and then rising to 22C in the afternoon. Shame it is getting dark already, how I miss the summer months! But the view outside now of the sunset is spectacular!
  3. Can't really get my head around how some people can call this weather 'depressing' - if anything I would say that being hit by depression after depression from the atlantic is more depressing. I think I would be correct in saying that the majority of the UK and myself are enjoying this dry spell very much, after the poor summer it is at least something. It hasn't been exceptionally dry here, we have had about 21mm which all fell in one go, and it is not unusual for us to get fairly dry months like this.
  4. My area is always bad for these.. this morning we had a low of about 10C, and it got to 22C I believe, so only 12C
  5. Not expecting much.. nights don't tend to get cool down here for a while yet.. We'd be lucky to even record a minimum in single figures for the reliable time frame.. I also find that Spring is the best time for this, especially April. Nights are still chilly and in single figures a lot of the time, but the sun is quite strong
  6. August down here in London was decent temperature wise.. but like the rest of this summer lacked the cloudless days that make good temps worthwhile. The mean temp down here for August was 19.4C, so over 1C above average
  7. mean temp: 19.4C max temp: 28.6C (19/8/09) min day temp: 19.5C (30/08/09) lowest min temp: 10.2C (29/08/09) highest min temp: 17C (5/08/09 and 31/08/09) average max: 24.2C average min: 14.5C An above average month temperature wise, 17 out of the 31 days recorded a night min of 15C or higher, most likely due to the cloud cover, all but one day recorded a temperature of 20C or higher, and 9 days recorded a temperature of 25C or higher
  8. I kind of agree with you, except down here in the SE, my sense is that it has been another bad summer. Rainfall has been above average, and temps have also been slightly above average, mainly due to warmer nights mind. I disagree that there have been a decent amount of 24/25C + days, down here we went a month from the beginning of July untill August without a 25C+ temp which is very unusual for down here.
  9. First Ground Frost: 2nd November First snowfall: it probably won't snow at all.. First sub zero night: 10th December Knowing down here it will probably stay pretty mild..
  10. Statistically, they were right in some ways.. but it certainly was not a BBQ summer. There is no point saying 'we expect it will reach 30C this year' as every year basically the UK gets 30C days.. last time it didn't was 1993. They didn't mention anything about the exceptionally wet July either..
  11. Woops, for some reason I thought it started today.. Thursday - 25C Friday - 24C Saturday - 23C Sunday - 25C Monday - 25C 0 minutes lost (Can't see there being any rain as it has not rained down here for quite a while now)
  12. Wednesday - 30C Thursday - 25C Friday - 24C Saturday - 23C Sunday - 24C
  13. The problem with this summer has been the lack of sun for me at least. Temperatures have not been too bad at all, but there has been a lack of very warm/hot days (25C+) I can only recall any real warmth from the early June warm spell and the June/July hot spell.. apart from that it has been pretty much bang on average here with 22C typically by day and nights generally milder, we have had quite a few 15C+ nights down here and never really slipping below 13C. It's funny because about 95% of the days here this summer have been 20C+, but cloud cover/rain/wind has prevented it from being of any use. Warmth is only nice if the sun is out.. It's been a while since we have had high pressure slap bang over the UK like we used to get.. I just hope next summer turns out better
  14. I wouldn't mind some warm/hot weather in early September when I return to the UK! Of course it won't feel quite the same with the shorter days, but I can remember some very good Septembers that have almost been an extension to summer
  15. Well it looks like i'll miss out most of the settled weather we have been missing all summer when I go away next Thursday.. Anyway, my early thought on Autumn are that we will have an indian summer, with September being well above average temperature wise and quite dry.
  16. Ahh... I remember that day.. I was younger then.. I was at my friend's house in the pool trying to cool down, I remember turning on the hosepipe and spraying the patio, and the water that came out was boiling.. and then it started steaming on the floor as the floor was so hot. I also remember going out at about 8pm when it was still above 30C and feeling hot still.. I would love for that to happen again
  17. Well, today was pretty good down here, 25C and it was mostly sunny with just a few clouds appearing in the afternoon, but soon disappearing. That is an ideal summers day for me, although a bit warmer would be nice. This week looks decent, and then after that I go to Italy to bask in sunshine for 2 weeks, before coming back in early September hoping for some nice sunny weather again. September might not be as good as June and July in terms of sunlight hours, but average temperatures are similar to June down here at least, average maxes both being about 20C, so there is still plenty of time in my eyes to enjoy some pleasant sunny weather, I think that September is a very underated month, it can bring the first frosts up in the far north, and 30C+ is still possible untill late September.
  18. Yes, the period of high summer usually bings at least one spell of very warm/hot weather.. in an average year we usually surpass 30C at least once in the period of high summer down here. Well the charts don't look inspiring, but at least it is looking ok down here for the next week, with largely sunny days with a few clouds and temperatures 23C-25C. After that it looks very autumnal.. well at least by then I will be basking in sunshine in the med
  19. Well, so far the GFS looks ok untill about Thursday.. after that it all goes horribly wrong with high pressure to our west and low to our east leaving us in a cool northerly flow.. after that the charts would not be out of place in October Looks like we will have to wait untill next year for a proper summer spell, this summer has turned into a horror show
  20. A month without a temperature above 22C is truly shocking for Birmingam, down here it's been mainly in the low 20S, but we still haven't recorded a temperature above 25C for a month, which is very rare indeed.
  21. I do agree with your thoughts on the day/night conditions and how when recorded they can be misunderstood. I never really use the mean temp to say how good a summer has been, because what use is it if you have muggy nights, and cooler days? I also think that you have to take in all of the statistics to say how good a summer has been, a warm summer is of no use to me and I would guess the majority of people if it is wet and cloudy the whole time. So although this summer so far has been pretty average regarding temperatures, in my area at least it has been poor thus far because of high rainfall and cloud cover.
  22. GFS 12Z has high pressure dominating for the next 10-12 days, with the high centered over the UK early next week. Just a question as to how much cloud there will be, hopefully not a lot, because I would love to enjoy at least a few more sunny days this summer, something that has been lacking so far :winky:
  23. Ok, from my point of view, Summer so far has been bad in my area which is in the SE, and when I recently went on holiday to Devon for 1 week, it was a washout. June was not too bad, up untill the last 3rd it was probably decent at best, a lot of people are forgetting that in the middle of June some places recorded very low temperatures, down here we recorded some cool day time temperatures, but it was dry at least. The last 3rd was very good for us, with 5 consecutive 30C+ days, but that has been it. After that, we have been plagued with cool breezes and cloudy skies, with quite a bit of rainfall, although not as much as western areas, it was still quite considerably above average. It has now been 4 weeks since we last recorded a 25C+ temp, which is quite astonishing for July. The older members will always complain that this is an average British summer and that we have been spoilt with recent summers prior to 2007, but that is not the case. Even my mother has said how poor the weather has been compared to her childhood days in the 60s, and how the grass always used to have a tint of brown to it in mid summer. I think everyone knows that 2006 was a one-off, just like 1995 and 1976. Noone is expecting this every summer unless they are mad, but a typical summer as someone said does contain both cooler, wetter spells and warmer and drier spells. This summer has lacked warmer and drier spells, and rainfall has been above average to well above average almost everywhere, so how anyone can call this a typical summer is beyond me.
  24. Just asking, what time does the ECM 12Z usually come out? thanks in advance!
