  1. I didn't say that everyone was writing off summer, I always believed what GP and Chion said about the current hot spell would come true, but many people were saying how it was going to end up like the last 2 summers e.t.c. Anyway This does not matter as I do not want to cause arguments
  2. I consider your post ridiculous as well unless you explain your reason.. It has hardly been a heatwave for 90% of the UK. London has hit 31C which isn't too rare, and the rest of the UK has generally seen anywhere from low twenties to high twenties with the odd 30C in some places, so I think it is just ridiculous that so much has been made about this and alerts e.t.c have had to be given out. It is common sense for people to know what to do when they are hot, elderly people probably know better because they have lived through 1976 and other severe heatwaves that have affected this country.
  3. Yes, I do think that the BBC in particular has been guilty of over doing this 'heatwave' Whilst I do feel for the elderly who struggle with heat, it is ridiculous to put heatwave alert warnings up when the temperature is around 30C. It is not unusual for areas in the UK to reach 30C, and the main area has been the southeast, with many northern areas typically seeing mid to high twenties as a max, nothing to alert people about in my books.
  4. Not surprised that some doom forecasters have returned predicting a wash out for the rest of summer, seriously, it is only the very beginning of July, and we still have 2 or possibly even 3 months of potentially good weather to come. Next week does look cooler, but this is typical British weather - hot one week then cool the next. A few weeks ago many people were writing of summer, then look what showed up, a glorious week for most with hot temperatures for many.
  5. Today was our fourth consecutive day of 30C+, so not bad for the London area, although not any serious heat with it just hovering around 31C, feels very nice for me, though others aren't enjoying it as much :o
  6. Today it felt a lot fresher and now it is cooler than previous evenings, there is a bit of a breeze which is probably why, it is not cool by any means, just very pleasant at the moment compared to other evenings where there has been no wind. Tomorrow the last proper day of this heatwave so enjoy it, Friday could still be very nice but a higher chance of thunderstorms so enjoy the sun.
  7. Definately heat - I hate cold weather unless it brings snow in which case I love cold! I hate very cold temperatures because it just means a higher heating bill, staying inside all day and feeling freezing getting up in the morning. I love heat because it means that I can go outside and sit in the sun or be sociable instead of sitting down inside watching TV in the dark.
  8. I agree with what someone said a few pages back, It has been great weather for many, but the media - BBC in particular are too quick to hype it up, classing it as a serious heatwave, when really it is not the case, this is probably what we can expect on the hottest day of the year normally, and 32C is not severe heat, and night mins have only been around 15-18C which is not that high at all, in fact many areas see these temps quite regularly in summer. It is also annoying that they class the cool down as good, no doubt next week they will be saying how the weather is too cool. Anyway, sorry to rant, but it is annoying that everyone is complaining when we finally get some decent weather, no doubt next week people will be complaining that it is too cool. It has been very nice today, 31C after a relatively comfortable night of 17C
  9. Yeah, it doesn't feel extraordinary really.. I wonder what Scotland would do if they were seeing temps of 30C+ though!
  10. Normally in my lifetime the highest temps have tended to occur in early August or late July, so we still have a while to go. If this same set up repeated in a months time then instead of 30C-32C maxima, we could we looking at 32C-35C maxima, and others have suggested a very hot spell in late July, but taht is in a months time so we have a lot of weather to enjoy untill then
  11. Ha I have to agree with you there I finish school on Friday as well and this would have been perfect in a weeks time, but I'm not complaining
  12. Funny how the the media call it a 'serious' heatwave.. It is hardly serious, it is only a weak heatwave at best.
  13. Already in June we have reached 31C for the first time since September 2006, beating the last 2 years' measly 30C maxes on one day, and 33C is possible later in the week. As I said before, the heatwave is only really in the SE, it is very warm elsewhere, but 25C should never be classed as a heatwave in my books, it isn't rare for London to hit 30C just as much as 25C is quite easily reached on a sunny day in the north.
  14. We have reached 30C in the last 2 years, the last time it hasn't reached 30C was in 1993 according to the MET. First 30C of the year today in London, wouldn't be surprised if we saw a 33C on Thursday or Friday. So far it is only really a heatwave for the south.
  15. Later on in summer the chance of extreme heat does get higher though. As long as the jet stays up where it should be in Iceland we have a chance of a good summer, last 2 years we only just reached 30C but this year we could on a number of days, perhaps somewhere every day next week but who knows
  16. I had my windows in my room wide open last night and next week it does look muggy during the nights.. If this set up had been a month later then it would probably have been hotter, maybe 34C-37C instead of 31C-33C, so if this pattern repeats we could be in for a hot summer
  17. I change my prediction from 33C to 35C. Next week could see temps in the low 30s, and this pattern looks like repeating itself so I would not rule out higher temps being reached later on in summer as the continent warms up.
  18. I think on any time from Saturday-Tuesday 30C will be reached, probably in SE
  19. I think that anything above the low 30s would be pushing it.. anything over 30C will most likely only be in the south east.. 33C will probably be the max temp, anything higher would require exceptional charts
  20. Ok Scotland - 28C Wales - 30C Somewhere around Cardiff maybe NI - 29C Maybe in July/August England - 34C Heathrow late July
  21. I think 27-29C is a good bet, maybe higher if the wind can shift slightly to a SE direction
  22. The last time that somewhere in the Uk did not reach at least 30C in summer was 1993, last year did actually reach 30.2C in Cambridge - http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/2008/july.html I would expect that 30C will be surpassed at least a few times this summer.. I don't think we will see any 35C plus though, as much as I would like us to, we would need exceptional charts and I suppose 850s of at least 20C I think we might see a max of around 33-34 in the London area in late July/August
  23. I think there is a good chance that we will see the first 30C of the year.. probably at Heathrow, so near to me
  24. I haven't had a ground frost since late April  I don't think there will be any more.. temperatures could drop down to 6C or so.. but ground frosts are very rare for southern England after June
