cold front now over Bicester Oxfordshire 16.5c when I looked at my website from work in Oxford this morning in the mid 20s had a good storm about 13.00 but stuck at work 6 till 2 shift rushed home to get camera gear but except for rain at times almost tropical amounts the lightning seems to have gone hoping for some more soon as looks like quite a storm wiltshire way heading this way looking at satpics, radar & various Nexstorm sites so lets keep hoping for more today -
After reading peoples descriptions of what they observed and looking up the criteria for a supercell, a good place to start is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercell the Kent Storm certainly fits the criteria to my mind. As a note most people and websites on supercells say that the Supercell Thunderstorm was first described in 1962 by a meteorlogical student in Wokingham England

storm chase yesterday once storms where close enough set off from Bicester to Brill not quite right as unable to get good visual off storms so set off for some higher ground further southeast to some higher ground looking south to the chilterns excellant view of storms from road but unabale to pull over an get camera set due to too many others out storm watching taking up every suitable field gate and track entrances etc with there cars an camper vans never seen so many out storm watching buy the time I found someware suitable to pull over (a vacated spot) the very active storm front had passed waited a couple of hours but nothing took the same track well disapionted as I was waitng with my new LIghtning Trigger that I had imported from US to get my first daylight lightning photos missed last weeks due to having to go to work at crucial so you can imagine my frustration. My son & his mate tried Stokenchurch area up on the Chilterns to video some storms the claim to have seen that most elusive devil Ball Lightning but were unable to get video cam out of bag in time before it faded away. -

just looked at my lightning detectors both showing activety to the southwest as an interest I have a StrikeAlert v2 (2 days) it has bleeped twice at the same time as my Boltek indicating 24 to 40 miles but they are 150 to 200 miles on Nextstorm looks a bit sensitive -

after yesterdays excitment looks like a possibilty next week, latest met office UK Outlook for Monday 13 Jul 2009 to Wednesday 22 Jul 2009: From Monday to Friday, the weather is expected to be dominated by an area of low pressure drifting slowly eastwards across northern Britain. This will bring an unsettled mix of sunshine and showers across much of the United Kingdom, albeit with a fairly gentle wind for much of the time. Although hit-and-miss, the showers will generally be on the heavy side, especially inland during the day, when localised thundery downpours are likely. Feeling pleasantly warm when the sun's out, with temperatures around average for the time of year. Looking ahead to the weekend and the start of the following week, the bright but showery theme is set to continue, with a significant settling down of the weather thought to be unlikely at this stage. Updated: 1139 on Wed 8 Jul 2009 my days off work next week wednesday & thursday so please thor send us some bolts
