  4. :yahoo:i will be the first visitor from uk
  5. confirmed damage looks to be EF 3
  6. update checking out the time line there where 2 tornadic supercells one of which put down a large long track tornado which caused a lot of damage all be it a wheat growing sparsely populated rural area sadly 2 reported deaths and first reports indicate it may be rated as high as an EF4 ground surveys yet to be completed may have been the above cell after i recorded it on GRLevel3 news report http://www.philly.com/philly/wires/ap/news/nation_world/99293459.html http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=157&sid=11736472
  7. a tornado warned supercell on the canadian - montana border the first image is the base reflectivity 2nd is the base velocity showing wind direction this one you can see the possible tornado quite clearly in centre the 3rd is vertical liquid wich is used to show hail potential
  8. on one of these threads someone asked recently how accurate are lightning detectors. the Boltek Lightning Detectors are not so good at calculating distance as the software averages the signals out with varying degrees of acuracy sometimes good sometimes not so good, as long as the antenna is correctly oriented the direction is good but when combined with several other Bolteks uploading to a website time stamped by gps or a special timer they become quite accurate and the position of lightning is good probably very good see lightning positions below compared to chart is good Wasp2 is private but the public link is http://www.strikesta.../sslt/sslt.html or Boltek users may upload a regional view on there personal website of Wasp2 (ie southern britain) added regional view of my desktop out of interest can anyone on south coast perhaps Brighton or Dover see lightning in the distance over the channel
  9. "another photo from the texas panhandle wait a minute i can see sea and kites whats going on" seriously thats a brilliant photo not often we get to see storms like thet in uk well done Cyprino thanks for joining and posting the pic here
  10. looks that tthe few people those that where brave enough to make a prediction got it wrong one way or another storms are much further north Paul S was closest, even metO and BBC got it wrong but still enough time for the south especialy with the very warm sunshine putting in a late apearance 21c in my garden so with the moisture on the ground perhaps convective storms will get going before the evening cool off still not writing off somthing overnite but iff there is i probably sleep through it. update looked outside before posting a couple of anvils forming to south south west
  11. just driven from Banbury to Bicester looks to be quite a bit of convection towards Northampton direction (NE) and southwards, then a bit of a clearer area visable southwards then some cloud to south west visable so quite a bit going on at the moment hopfully the heat from brighter patch will pep things up a bit
  12. i am at this moment tracking the 11 larkhill sonde this is tracking almost due north at present so hopfully the flow over england has gone a bit more northely and will bring any imports further west and stop any homegrown going out over north sea time will tell
  13. different forcaster on bbc differant chart lol they look a bit confused as to what is going to happen where. my original thought of travelling south has now been discounted as i now suspect looking at wind charts at low levels the wind is from se & higher levels from sw plus other charts i now suspect i may be on the sw edge of any storm initiation there will almost definitly be storms today how widespread how many still up for grabs at the moment i must admit (paul) when i went to bed last night i did think of heading towards norwich a bit further south of your forecast area. just noticed some sferics showing in central northern france there was a few to the nw of cornwal much earlier
  14. just watched bbc southeast weather they showed the most showers to the west but well scattered anyway i have just watched the 06:00 larkhill sonde flight live a dramatic change in humidity at aprox 5000m and its flight was in a north east drirection, storms will be quite fast moving will look at the official plot diagrams in a couple of hours especialy the 06:00 herstmonceux sonde. so i think stay at home as there is now a bit of sunshine breaking out which will hopefuly increase convection, as any storms breaking out south will quickly move northeast so i think i may not have to travel far perhaps to my favorite spot between aylesbury and high wycombe looking towards the chilterns then a short drive back to brill to watch any storms south of oxford
  15. I have been up since 04:20 checking out the charts etc waiting for 06:00 weathersondes got 2 days off work as of today still cant decide when to set off in car, looked at sat pics of france for clues, still too early perhaps might head south to portsmouth then can head east along coast or back inland trouble is i have just finished a long line of early shifts so will be knackered by mid afternoon, or stay at home wait too many options and timing issues still.
  16. OK who's stolen sundays storms was looking forward to an exciting British F1 grand prix plenty of thunder an lightning torrential rain nothing like it, can't remember the last time a GB F1 was rained upon think the last one was the famous easter weekend event when the carparks became liquid mud pits trapping thousands of cars.
  17. i am sure i was able to here pats voice especially the "WHOOOOO" and the "MAN" bits Pete
  18. I have my suspicions that we are in for a long hot summer with perhaps the odd thundery day (night) thrown in perhaps with high pressure over the near continent we may get a long hot fetch from the south east bringing very hot weather and the odd continental storm with immbedded with in the 100f temperatures we are going to get. Hopefully making this statement will make our weather behave in a more active mode and bring us a breakdown in this weather with lots of cold fronts hitting warm air an give us some nice thunderstorms like we seemed to have before global warming become all the rage
  19. this link shows a fairly good accurate view of lightning it is Triangulated, collated and time stamped with gps or internet timing by a special program, from several boltek lightning detectors to try and make it more accurate http://www.strikesta.../sslt/sslt.html you can zoom in when you scroll over it
  20. bloomin heck pats (dogs32) has hit the jackpot hes almost in the bullseye me i will be in London for the day but hopefully will be back in time for a chiltern/brill hill even west to cotswolds perhaps birdlip storm chase car will be fuelled up ready, mind you that cape looks a bit high for uk but lets wait ansee
  21. i thought Pats Twin Sisters WAS GETTING CLOSE perhaps not close enough though (lol) look at the others driving away from the tornado
  22. a link to some tornado statistics for this year to end of may this will no doubt update for each month even this fantastic season for stormchasing has had less tornados than the 10 year average for each month so far so going by that it can only get better next year see: http://www.weather.c...ter/stormwatch/
