  1. I'd say it's the drifting that will cause major problems. Met Office have been stressing the wind all day.
  2. North Wales will be getting some snow, not as much as South Wales so perhaps 5-10cm. Depends exactly where in North Wales. Where you are in Llanrwst will most definitely be getting decent snow.
  3. It does seem to be moving slightly faster than I would have thought. I would have had it's current position at around 22:00. I'm pretty sure it's going to slow down and stall tomorrow morning though.
  4. Not seen a RED Warning for a long time. This could get interesting.
  5. It's interesting that the Met Office has have High Impact but Low Likelyhood at the moment, as the likelyhood increases more areas will come in to the Amber area and some areas could even become Red. As some have said, this may be just before the event.
  6. Although there has been a westward trend for the initial snowfall I think there is still going to be a thawing in the SW of Wales (and England) druing Friday evening. Even if this westward trend continues I believe there is still going to be thawing in SW. Also, have you seen this forecast from the Met Office regarding accumulations:
  7. Any reports of decent snowfall from the lump sitting over Wales at the moment?
  8. The minor details are going to make all the difference for those in SW Wales. As @bradythemole has said, a 50 mile change could make the difference between snow and no snow.
  9. Most definitely on Friday, although it may become sleety/rainy the closer to the coast you get. North Cardiff could see some decent accumulations though.
  10. At your height (200m asl) you're very likely to be getting some decent snow on Friday and maybe in to Saturday morning.
  11. I think that anything east of Swansea will get snow on Friday. The SW corner of Wales is likely to be the only area not getting major snow.
  12. There's been some amazing pictures coming through on Twitter most of the day. Have a flick through my timeline, there's quite a few on there. https://twitter.com/CardiffStorm
  13. Just got this picture on Twitter for Barry, South Wales. Looks like a funnel cloud to me.
  14. Well it's been an interesting day so far, loads of very severe cells around, some possibly even supercells. Here's a video of a funnel in Wakefield: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAIOKKUvyZg This is a picture of the same funnel: And this is the flooding in Newcastle: As for me in Cardiff I've just had the odd heavy shower.
  15. This shows the lightning striked across the UK over the last 24 hours, as you can see most of the country has had some lightning, apart from a lot of Wales that is http://brunnur.vedur.is/athuganir/eldingar/i_dag_na.html
  16. This looks like a great idea, I don't manage to chase a huge amount anymore due to work but I try to get out there as much as possible. You can certainly count me in.
  17. After this weekend I don't think there'll be too much more rain for Wales, for at least a couple of weeks. Temperatures in the low twenties for most too. It's definitely going to be getting a lot nicer than the recent crap we've had. What do people think?
  18. I'm feeling quite optimistic about the possible warmer, sunnier weather coming the end of this week and the end of the month. Maybe I'm just wishful hoping as I can't stand this cloudy, dull, rainy, drizzly, crap weather.
  19. The radar is showing freezing rain in North Wales. Anybody have any reports on the ground?
  20. I think this is definitely going to be a snow leading to rain event.
  21. Its a very interesting article. Well done to George Monbiot for doing it.
  22. As the low continues to move East the colder air will start to move down behind it - this is when the snowfall is most likely to happen. Looking at the radar, the next 'batch' of precip across North and Mid Wales could fall as snow. This has been an absolute to nightmare to forecast - models changing with every run.
  23. Looks like Mid-Wales is going to get the worst of it early Friday morning. The latest NAE run is now taking the snowfall further South through Friday morning and into Friday afternoon. I think even where the snow does fall it wont last very long with some rain following on Friday night/Saturday morning. As @mikeocarroll says its going to be a case of nowcasting and watching the radar.
  24. A couple of squall lines have developed today. The most noticeable was in Northern Ireland this morning and now one has formed across East Wales. They're nothing major but are certainly noticeable on the radar.
