there is now a 10% chance of major storming in the next 48 hours, the highest in a longgg time, more so if 1046 produces a powerful M class or X possibly.
it was rather short lived, a longer lasting M.8 could have bigger impact i recon.Monster M 8.3 flare earlier - now largest of SC24 :-)
The solar flux reached a high of 95.5 with a daily average of 94 on Monday. This is a new record for Cycle 24. The sunspot number was 71. This is also a new record.
Great news and tough on those who liked a quiet sun
quiet sun was pretty boring last 3 years.

id forget solar minimum for now start looking at yellowstone omg i know we like cold but this could be just a little chilly.
Start looking at yellowstone? what about yellowstone?
-
M6.4 :] hope we get an earth directed X class some day soon, after Years of Nothing, what would it take to get major Geomagnetic storming?
January 2010 only had 2 blank days, so far none February, i think this year is seeing change at last.
-
revised from 3,0 to 3.8 for me.

8C
uh febuary CET, not July 2010 CET estimate mate.
I'm going 3.0C. The first half looks pretty cold, the second half could be anything though.

SNOWING HERE RIGHT NOW
im coming the conclusion it always snows in croydon
-
It's a Thames Streamer in reverse!
what's thames streamer, know its something to do with snow/ pricip. but thats about it.
-
Light to moderate pretty big flakes in Hammersmith, west London.
Although according to the BBC/UKMO it is currently raining.
Very pretty, this rain stuff.
dw worry there wrong i doubt the snows going to be turning to rain.
-
its currently light snow here, lots of ups and downs in temp, up to 5C+ causing most of the snow to melt, now its falling fast.
best im hoping for is it will start to settle soon giving a new covering before it clears off & gets cold.
The snowflakes are quite something different to any ive seen this winter they are so big in size perfect vertical drop no wind at all
your about 10 mi SE of me so i hope that comes my way :]
Quite an Incredible Radar Representation - Amazing
You have the Eastern Most precip moving SE To NW &
The Precip near Reading moving W To E
The difference in the Steering Winds must be only 20 Miles, C London must be the point where they are Colliding up there.
Run the radar it looks amazing zoomed In

yey!!

had quite a lot here in surrey but it got to 5C+ and melted.
-
thats weird and awesome!
-
hasnt got below -7C here yet...
-22C must be chapping...
want to beat record for -8C here, ive never recorded lower.

I'm officially fed up with the cold spell now and looking forward to milder temps , at least for a while. A week of snow at a time, particularly whne its dull, cold, damp and generally grim like it is now, is quite enough.
Let's clear it away, warm up , and start again!
it might be getting warmer but its getting wetter, the weather over the next week is going to be Far from warm and pleasant.
-
well its rain in twickenham - we always miss out
i know what you mean mate, no rain here actually but no snow, no precip in days.
high pressure's been rather strongly in place, thats one of the reasons keep fizzling out before they reach well inland.
-
Thanks snowbob, I think they are just pulling my leg Doesn't matter though as it is chucking it down with snow and settling
still havent seen a single snowflake in days, your location is doing So welll!¬!!
-
it might settle later, especially if it gets harder, too bad there hasnt been any clear spells before hand to let temps drop though.
edit- in the east that is where its snowing.

update from molesey: its still not snowing...
I think everyone should do 1 minute updates on there precise location so we can get to thread 100 in the next 10 minutes.
u know the weathers GOT to be good if we get to 100, new record..
Actually I think statistically the coldest time of year is Late Jaunuary/first few day of February, even if the days are getting slightly longer and the sun that bit stronger by that time.
yey we still have plenty of time then :]
Perhaps, but thats 10 weeks away... For all we know it could be 15-20c
And i stated alot can change in a 6hour period so we have 1680 hours in 10 weeks with 840hours worth of possible changes.
Edit: presuming it does change every 6hours and not within 30minutes like a thunderstorms direction can do based on radars - or 5mins per netweather radar
we'll you certainly got me there. im still gunu stick with my forecast of 7C and moderate gloom for the weather in 10 weeks, its always been that way late march in the past.
-
Are you other certain members in disguise?
Theres around 10 weeks left of winter i think? What is your expert forecast for the next 10 weeks? 25c and torrential rain? *crosses off summer before its even happened* lol
I dont mean disrespect, and i understand the downbeat nature but in 6hours alot can change, so 10 weeks in weather terms is almost a lifetime..
in 10 weeks its obviously gunnu be 7C and probably gloomy and raining, sorry, but its true.
-
its all over i fear for at least another year everything looked good solar min ..uppers ..lowers ..dps ahhhh
redefining pessimism there mate gotta agree a bit tho, 10th of January is statistically the coldest day [Probably, i cant actuaLLy remeber...] x

I think some of us work under different definitions of flurry, light snow, moderate snow, heavy snow, very heavy snow and blizzards! Oh and the classic 'white out!'
if theres a reasonable amount of snow and a bit of wind, id call that a BLIZZARD, WHITEOUT, oh hell were all gunnu get SNOWED IN >.>
i think we could safely define my conditions as no snow though.
-
Heavy snow at the moment
Theres always someone reporting heavy snow in croydon!!! I only live in molesey 10 miles away ad havent seen a snowflake in dayss...
-
Moderate/heavy shower now, can't say I'm that excited to be honest and it seems like rather wet snow, all a bit futile now. Sadly the lovely Icecles we had are now withdrawing quickly and it doesn't help that the little 'uns have been outside and ravaged the decent covering we had making it look rather miserable now.
Coming down quite enthusiastically now, shouldn't really complain too much ay!
haha! your not allowed to complain if its snowing
-
I had about 4-5 inches in Feb, this time around about 1.5 inches max... I really could do with a good dumping
i thought we got more like 10 inches in febuary around sunbury, that was the best...
-
amounts of snow will pale into insignificant if you get a fine for late payment
booo lol its true tho!... or if i fail because i havent done any revision for exams tommorow...
