I agree. Did you know that the forecasters are going to get about 20% pay rise
Light snow still falling here
nothing here, nothing scince 3 days ago, ive Gotta move 10 miles to croydon!
i agree -- but maybe it is so marginal they feel it may go either way still - temp is dropping here and snow flurries seem to be coming in on a more easterly wind.
not going to obsess about it though.
id start obsessing over it if i saw a single snowflake
-
i think finally suns activity is starting to increase but i wouldnt be surprised if we get more long stretches like 30 or 50 days of no activity...
20 years from now we could be in the pits.
-
not much more LEFT to melt here!.... drip drip
-
really big thaw going on here ,it's all slushy crap now. 23cm of slushy crap. to think it was lovely, perfect dry snow yesterday! and occasional rain/sleet showers too
23 cm of slushy crap sounds exciting compared to my 1cm of watery slushy crap
did anyone get any snow last night?
-
I think to call what's happening here in reigate as a 'thaw' as i did earlier could well be wrong... yes, some snow is melting, mostly off roofs and cars and the road looks a bit clearer, but there's still 6 inches of snow in my garden... that is going to take a few days to shift if the temp remains around 1c!
I hate SW london you BIT**!!! its 3.5C here and basicly All the 2 inches of snow we ever had is gone....
i'd say cold spell over for me after no snow last night and now looking on the verge of rain. forecast looks like sleet or rain for here. [note SW london is terrible for snow]

It gets very confusing on here during these periods!
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understood the 'main' event isn't expect to arrive until later on tonight and through out tomorrow (hence the SWW lasting till tomorrow 23.59). The snow bands or showers which some areas have seen today are not part of this, so if it was snowing in your area earlier but now isn't, it's just because those showers have passed but the main front is yet to arrive.
How much snow falls and where is really, as Steve is having to point out so many times, is up in the air until it hits our shores and we can determine what goes on at that point (convection, wind direction, DP's etc)
So everyone take a deep old breath, watch the TV, have some dinner and take a break from watching every weather forecast on the BBC, ITV, Sky News, C5, CNN and following blobs on the radar. Enjoy whatever snow some of you have had instead! I do think a lot of this is being missed because of being glued to a PC/Laptop screen!
HAHAHA!! its funny because its SO TRUE, espcially that last bit.

SW london is useless for snow, its always snow shadowed by hills or on the margins of fronts. easteries dont usually quite deliver it far west enough. things always peter out before they get to us pretty much. only exception is febuary 2009... caused by some sort of thames streamer.
-
Francis Wilson chief weather forecaster just interviewed on Sky News said that the SE including London will get 4 to 5 inches with drifts of a few feet. He thinks slightly milder conditions may come in next Sat/Sun, but the ppn from the West will be preceded by snow.
Francis has snow for the SE on Sunday to Tuesday.
and he better be right XD
-
People need to slow down and read the posts. Steve M has explained that our Snow in the SE is convective and this will be enhanced by the upper warm front currently poised across the channel. The parts currently predicited to have the heaviest snow are NW Kent, NE Surrey and NE Sussex.
i'll be happy if we get an inch or more here, you say NE surrey could do well? (my location never does well )
-
everything in the SE is convective & enhanced by the advancing warm front which is just approaching the french coast....
Poor UKMO tonight-

i take it this is bad news for snow??

Hey suxx to always being on the EDGE of things... i got about that too...
COME ON LONDON YOU ICY BIT**!! [ general M25 sw london and staines massive area included]

Edit: Huge Blizzard....
aaha i dont know where morden is but i want blizzard XD
edit: its just started to snow a little.
-
Heavy snow in croydon now has something changed
only 10 miles from croydon so im keeping a watch now
-
Heres 24 hour accumulations for here!
hhm from that chart i could only expect a drop in accumulation, which obviously isnt going to happen.
-
I think the wind needs to go in a more Easterly direction...
(Not that I'm being selfish at all...)
i think most of us would benefit from more easterlies, theres stuff in the channel which needs pushing across us all.
-
At last light snow in Croydon
awesome, we've had a few flakes, should be coming my way
-
No nothing at the moment
sorry, google earth lies, im sure you will get it though.
-
starting to see a few snowflakes in SW london!! [somehow] im totally confused about this band of snow it seems to be in remarkebly Different locations depending on how your tracking it, as i said google earth has it that its snowing in south london properly.
-
on google earth it says its currently moderate snow in croydon.... ???? anyone confirm?
-
I suppose it's better for London to get any it's going to get after nightfall, as we don't want heat island trapping to stop it settling in inner areas.
I still have my doubts looking at how lazy the Beast has been today, but I guess he may wake up a bit later – and I haven't actually seen any recent forecasts. Hope you are right about tonight mate.
BTW do other winds have nicknames? I call the West Wind the Pest from the West, but do north and south or others have nicknames?
lol THE BEAST!! XD
-
stalled over kent, someones gunnu be getting a right dumping!!
-
The Snow bands will eventually cover the whole London region, more so this evening. Can be quite confusing as winds will become stronger NE'ly, but the precipitation is pushing in, in a NW'ly direction as we speak, hence why the BBC & The Met Office go with Kent and Sussex bearing the brunt of the heavier showers that will merge to longer and frequent spells of snow for some time before it moves away west tomorrow afternoon leaving light to moderate showers in it's wake.
Overall I feel 2-10cm for London, further south and east will no doubt receive 10-20cm, perhaps more judging by the amounts there already getting.
Enjoy it! It's coming.
yey! im sure im too far west but im pretty close to london really... thanks for this XD
-
Looks like yet another near miss for London unless the easterly element of the wind picks up. Grr.
Come on Beast stop being lazy.
yea come onnn!!! west london ftw
-
Has anyone else been unlucky like me to get no more than 2cm of snow this winter. Seams to be a poor place for snow, I might have to move after this winter Guessing anywhere north east of me into central London must be the same.
YEA MAN im like 1 train stop from u thames ditton, i would say this sucks but my college has still been closed because of it for 3 days.
if u trys going out of town to the SW u'll find ureself in foot deep snow i tell you.
