My next entry:

This year started with a mild, dry and sunny winter only to be followed by the coldest weather coming in March. That didn’t last long and record warmth followed in April. The summer was very warm and very long lasting from June all the way through October with only the odd break here and there — indeed, September was a record scorcher. Christmas and Boxing Day were very mild.

The year started with a very cold and dry winter, extending into an exceptionally cold March.

April turned things around with warm and very dry conditions, before a flip in May to exceptionally cool and wet.

June was slightly cooler and wetter than average, before another flip to warm and very dry conditions for July and August.

The autumn was cool throughout, with average rainfall, though October was wet and November dry.

The year closed with a mild and dry December.

 alexisj9 Nope.

Some clues:

Conservative government, not a leap year.

Weather Enthusiast91 1987 did not have a warm summer.

The year in question was before I was born.

Harry233 Indeed. Though I am afraid that the answer was already mentioned. There'll be plenty more to come though! 🙂

And for another one:

This year opened with a cold winter, though February was a little milder than average. Spring began on a windy note with gusts of up to 100 mph in early March followed by a slightly above average April and May. June was one of the wettest of the century with much of the rainfall being a result of thunderstorms. The start of that month began hot and humid resulting in some notable thunderstorms and flooding in some areas. July was quieter with it being fairly warm and dry but not exceptionally so and was particularly wet during the second week in the south west of England. The hottest day of this year occurred during early August. September was warmer than average with a NW/SE split during the first three weeks. There was a heatwave midmonth followed by much more autumnal and unsettled conditions from the 21st. The unsettled weather remained throughout the rest of the autumn as well as December.

Clues:

  • The Prime Minister was Conservative
  • It wasn't a leap year
  • A notable event happened during this year (not weather related)

My favourite winter of all time. That January belonged in the same category as 47 & 63 for snow depths and snow longevity in South Wales. There were still snow patches on the ground on St Davids day (1st Mar) all from that unforgettable 2 day long January blizzard.

Arch Stanton Before my time, which is a pity as I would have loved to have experienced it. We had proper winters in those days.
