A series of upper short-wave trough's are expected to move through England and Wales on this day as part of a moderately unstable low-pressure system from the south-west. With good moisture available and decent lapse rates - some reasonably organised clusters of thundery showers are expected to spread north-eastwards across England and Wales.

If you happen to live or be passing thru the 'thundery bits' please post your reports here.

Thunderstorm here in North Hampshire. Been going for 20 mins or so but starting to brighten up now

-- Yikes!!! I spoke to soon -- that lightning was too close for comfort -- time to turn off for a while!

Had 2 very heavy showers, first around 12.30pm with no thunder but has moved north and intensified and a second about half an hour ago with hail and thunder. Although its brightened up a bit now, there are lots of rumbles continuing in the background.

Had thunder and lightening for about 10 minutes at 5.00pm. Wind slightly gusty but nothing too bad - about 20mph I suspect. Small hailstones and very black sky - all the street lights and the garden solar lights came on. Thunder very loud - lightening was CC.

Torrential rain with 5-10mm hail at Sutton Coldfield, W Mids around 1700 BST. Was already flooding roads in 15 minutes. Heavy rain too in Telford area at 1745, some impressive anvils. Look dark towards Stafford and south to Birmingham/Wolverhampton too. Not currently raining in Shrewsbury but seems to have been recently.

Had no idea this was forecast (too engrossed in Wilma watching to catch the news and weather ) so what a pleasant surprise ! Started to get real dark about 20 minutes ago - now it is chucking it down and just witnessed the brightest flash of lightning and loudest clap of thunder ! Hope this continues although rain easing off as I type. Bugger.

Big, dark cumulonimbus around from 4 to 5 pm. Very dark to the southeast, with rumbles of thunder - followed by a moderate shower and a bright rainbow, as the sun came out to the west.

Small storm with some good lightning passing over East London not much rain to the south of the river. Lightning looks good from this side if the river.

A big storm to the NE of Canterbury. Lots of lightning and distant thunder.

From looking at the Met Office radar it looks as if it just skimming the coastline. Margate/Ramsgate area I guess.

    Impressive viewing though.

    • After a wet March, Easter Weekend is looking mostly dry and settled, but maybe a chilly easterly wind

Blog looking at the prospects of dry and settled conditions developing from Sunday persisting into Easter Weekend. Warm in the sun by day, but nights could be cold with a risk of frost, easterly wind may make eastern areas chilly. The long weekend may end with rain in the west. View the full blog here
