can anyone spot the similarity with the last one? Indeed for the last 4-5 days, with just minor changes. Obviously a cut and paste expert on the further outlook in the Met Office.

UK Outlook for Friday 5 Jan 2007 to Sunday 14 Jan 2007:

The weather looks like staying in a thoroughly unsettled pattern through most of this period. There will be further rain or showers at times in all areas but with some drier, clearer periods in between. Western parts of the UK will be wettest on the whole, while the more sheltered eastern and southern parts will be best placed for periods of drier, clearer weather, with the best of the sunshine. At times it will be cold enough for some hill snow in northern UK, perhaps more likely later in this period. However temperatures will more often range from near normal to mild, with overnight frost likely to be rather short-lived. However, it does look like staying windy with gales in northern and western UK at times, possibly severe.

Or it could just be that there are only so many ways you can say the same thing about SW'ly dominated zonality! So there's a bit of change today I see...

UK Outlook for Tuesday 9 Jan 2007 to Thursday 18 Jan 2007:

The weather looks like staying generally very unsettled with further rain or showers at times in all areas but with some drier, clearer periods in between. Western parts of the UK will be wettest on the whole, whilst sheltered eastern parts are likely to have the best of the drier, interludes with the most sunshine. It will be cold enough at times for some snow in the northern UK, especially on high ground. This appears more likely around the middle of next week. However temperatures will more often be above average, with overnight frost likely to be rather short-lived. It will often be windy, with gales at times, more particularly in the west, where they may occasionally be severe.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 16 Jan 2007 to Thursday 25 Jan 2007:

The weather is expected to continue generally very unsettled with further rain or showers at times but with some drier, clearer periods in between. Western parts of the UK will be wettest on the whole, whilst sheltered eastern parts are likely to have the best of the drier interludes with the most sunshine. At times it will be cold enough for some snow in northern UK, especially on hills and mountains. This is more likely later in the period when colder air from the north may extend to all parts. However, for much of the time, temperatures will be generally above average, with overnight frost likely to be rather short-lived. It will often be windy, with gales at times, particularly in the west, where they may occasionally be severe.

The weather is expected to continue generally unsettled, with further rain or showers at times but some drier, clearer periods too. Further severe gales and heavy rainfall seem quite likely to affect parts of the country right at the start of the period but the risk should then decrease, at least for a time. It will be cold enough for occasional snowfall in northern UK, especially on higher ground. However there may be a more pronounced cold spell around next Sunday and Monday, with an increased risk of frost nationwide and also snow to lower levels in the northeast. A return to milder conditions seems likely later, but probably not quite so wet and windy as recently, with the prospect of some drier spells in the south.

UK Outlook for Saturday 20 Jan 2007 to Monday 29 Jan 2007:

The weather is expected to start unsettled with further rain or showers and a risk of gales. During the weekend, colder weather should spread south, with showers turning increasingly wintry with a risk of snowfall across northern Scotland and perhaps exposed hilly parts of eastern UK. The showers should gradually die out early next week, with increasing amounts of sunshine but also some fairly sharp night frosts. Exception is the far northwest of Britain, where it should stay milder with occasional rain. Southern areas UK may keep these colder, drier conditions for much of the rest of the period, with some hazy sunshine and a continuing risk of overnight frost. Northwestern parts of the UK are increasingly likely to turn unsettled, windier and milder.

UK Outlook for Monday 22 Jan 2007 to Wednesday 31 Jan 2007:

Much colder weather than of late is expected to be established across all areas on Monday 22nd January. Sleet and snow showers are likely to affect northern and eastern parts of the UK giving localised accumulations, perhaps with some significant snowfall in NE Scotland, whilst many inland areas should be dry and bright. The wintry showers will gradually die out towards the middle of next week giving a good deal of dry weather with sunny periods but with sharp overnight frosts. A stiff cold NE'ly wind may persist across southern areas. The weather is likely turn milder and more unsettled in northwestern areas later next week with these conditions probably extending to all parts for the remainder of the period.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 23 Jan 2007 to Thursday 1 Feb 2007:

Much colder weather than of late is expected to be established across all areas of the UK on Tuesday 23rd January. Sleet and snow showers are likely to affect some eastern parts at first giving localised accumulations. However, many places will have a good deal of dry and fine weather but accompanied by some sharp overnight frosts. A stiff, cold NE'ly wind may persist across southern areas into the middle of next week. The weather is likely turn milder and more unsettled in northwestern areas later next week into the following weekend. These milder and more unsettled conditions will probably then extend to all parts by the final week of January although southeastern areas will maintain the driest conditions generally.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 24 Jan 2007 to Friday 2 Feb 2007:

Much colder weather than of late is expected to be established across all areas at first. Sleet and snow showers are likely to affect some areas, chiefly some eastern parts, giving localised snow cover. However, many places will have a good deal of dry, fine weather but accompanied by some sharp overnight frosts. A stiff, cold northeasterly wind may persist across southern areas until later next week. The weather is likely turn milder and rather more unsettled in northwestern areas later next week and into the following weekend. These milder, more unsettled conditions will slowly extend southeastwards in the following week. However some southern areas of the UK are quite likely to hang onto a lot of dry weather, although still with the risk of occasional frosts.

UK Outlook for Saturday 27 Jan 2007 to Monday 5 Feb 2007:

The settled rather cold conditions of this week will gradually be replaced by milder, more unsettled weather which will soon spread into NW'ern areas and extend slowly southeastwards to remaining areas bringing some periods of rain (locally heavy in northern and western parts) and some strong winds across the north (risk of gales or severe gales). Colder interludes are also likely in the far north with risk of wintry showers. Southern areas will also see some rainy windy interludes, but generally will remain drier and less windy than the north, though fairly cloudy with still a risk of night frosts. More settled weather is likely early in February with cold nights and local freezing fog and a low probability of wintry showers into southeastern areas on a brisk wind.

The rather cold and often frosty conditions of this week will have been replaced by milder, more unsettled weather across the UK by Sunday 28th January. However, a good deal of dry weather should still occur in the south next week although it will sometimes be rather cloudy. Some rain is likely in the more northern areas of Britain, particularly western Scotland. Strong winds are also likely at times across northern areas with gales likely in the extreme north where some colder interludes may occur giving wintry showers. The weather may become dry with light winds across much of the UK towards the start of February with an increasing risk of frost and fog before northern areas become more unsettled and windy again during the first week of February.

Interesting to note that despite the awful 6z from GFS the meto outlook updated today identifies the likelihood of wintry weather towards end of 1st week of feb for england and wales then extending to other areas, this is of course totally at odds with Mr fox's latest outlook on the beeb

Here is that forecast:

UK Outlook for Saturday 3 Feb 2007 to Monday 12 Feb 2007:

Scotland and Northern Ireland will be rather unsettled with rain at times, especially in western Scotland. Some brighter drier spells are also expected. England and Wales should retain a good deal of dry weather, with clear/sunny spells, although it will occasionally be rather cloudy with mainly light rain. Patchy overnight fog may also occur for a time. Strong winds are likely at times across the north of Britain with gales likely in the far north. Temperatures nationwide should be mostly near or a little above normal at first, but are likely to decline with time as the possibility of colder, more wintry, interludes increases, more especially across England and Wales. There is a possibility of more widespread wintry conditions spreading to many other parts later in the period.
