The heavy snow has now eased slightly but is still falling. Another band is now moving into south yorkshire according to the radar so i expect this to get heavier again. It has thawed on the roads and paths alittle. On the higher areas of sheffield there is well over 2cm of lying snow.

Continual snow here since about 16:30, which was preceeded by a very heavy hail

shower. This appears to be a big shower to say its been going on for quite a few

hours now. Periods of nice white snowy ground when the showers get heavier, but

then they go lighter and everything almost melts away :)

Moderate-heavy snow showers this afternoon gave a couple of thin, temporary coverings above 290m. A spell of quite heavy snow began around 1750 and has covered everything, like a christmas card scene, with 1cm of snow. Temp' is -0.1c

Well the weather here this evening has been fun. Large pea sized hail too start off with this afternoon. Then heavy rain, followed at 5:30pm rain / huge snowflakes. Not sleet. was snowing properly with the raindrops. than about 6pm a complete white out. absolutely enormous snowflakes, some were the size of tennis balls <--- not exagerating here. these were incredible. Sadly now it's turned back to rain / drizzle and everything is melting. Left around 2-3cms before the thaw kciked in here though. Really unexpected.

As for the tree londonsnow was asking about. It's either a weeping willow or a ornamental weeping cherry tree. :)

Parents have one in the garden.

We had some tennis ball sized snowflakes earlier this afternoon also, mixed into the hail. Your right, its a kilmarnock weeping willow.

Interesting to read the widespread reports of snow even in Bucks, Kent and East Sussex. However can we please not misuse the term "blizzard": a heavy snow shower with a temporary covering of 1 or 2 cm and a bit of wind does not a blizzard make!

Snowing, but absolutly none of it settling. Which is a real shame as the flakes are quite big.

Edit: Actually it's trying to settle now at least.
