Driving back from the pub last night at 10:30pm and the temp was 8oC...it is sometimes colder than that at night in July. Was thinking of starting a fire in the pit outside and having a beer. Forecast high of 9oC today and sun...14oC in the city - could be a record breaker.

All green here again the remains of our new years day minor snow been washed away, lots of rain today. Think further west on the Island is seeing some significant snow accumulations (up to 35cm) from the low pressure currently over us. Still waiting for the next big storm, we had the 30cm in November but nothing that big since, would expect one to be round the corner soon.

If there's something I've learned about your next of the woods is wait 5 mins and you'll be sure to have a storm in winter. Its just whether its rain or snow - lots of marginal events.

Just going to go for a run outside in the balmy weather lol....in shorts

Yes it would appear so, the rain today is expected to lead to a few flurries over night as the temp drops and a much colder day tomorow with maybe 5cm of snow forecast, then rain is forecast again for friday and more snow forecast over the weekend. I would expect as we head into later January and February it to become less marginal and more likely more snow events? I know there will be some big snow storms often later in the season in April/May it's not uncommon, just being impatient I suppose want to try out my new snowpants I got for christmas lol.

I do remember reading something about it, interesting article. I know they can get some huge snow storms late in the season, apparently the record 24 hour snowfall for St Johns was in April 1999 about 68cm. We're forecast 5-10cm overnight before turning to rain for a while in the morning so more marginal stuff, the heavier stuff forecast for the weekend has typically disappeared from the forecast now as we get nearer to it.

Indeed some of the wildest weather reports I have heard over the years have come from spring storms on Newfoundland.

The record we had here was 67cm in approx 24 hours on May 8/2008. Never seen snow so heavy and persistant. We still got to work the next day and within 3 days temps were back up into the high teens andf the snow had all melted

Last night was a damp squib, literally. Woke up expecting some snow cover being forecast 5-10cm and was nothing, must of all been rain there's your marginality!

Yesterday I was talking to one of the snow clearing contractors here, last year he was saying there was literally no snow through Nov/Dec and first half of January then it went crazy with something like 3.8 metres worth in 2 months and snowed every single day in February. They're crying out for it to kick off properly again, at least they did get some snow clearing business in Nov/Dec this time.

It was the same in the west - very snowless until late January and then we had record snowfall through to April.

Any snowfall forecast for the New York region in about 5 days?

It looks as if the models attempt to form a nor'easter but it never gets going as another low center develops inland.

Brief shot of much colder weather for western Canada mid-week, mild to early Tuesday then much colder, won't last long in Alberta as another chinook develops by Thursday. But could briefly touch -30 C in places on Wednesday.

We have had only 1 snowfall here so far this winter and about half the normal rainfall. However it is more or less into a rainy pattern now, although not too heavy.

Washington DC was 20 C (68 F) on Saturday, NYC 17 C (62 F).

Interesting read:

http://www.theweathe...ther_topstories

We had around 1cm overnight so at least everything is white again and generally staying at or below freezing until the Friday with up to 15cm forecast over tue/wed so maybe a wintry few days on the cards, though I wont be holding my breath until I see it fall. Rain and milder forecast as we head into the weekend which has been typical of winter so far here ...some snow which lasts a few days then it's all gone, still waiting for these big storms in short succession the locals keep telling me about!

Edit: Maybe I will get some of my wish Wednesday, potential for one of these Noreasters I hear about http://www.vocm.com/...=19906&latest=1

The 1800 plots for Canada and the US. The snow storm in west Texas is very borderline as can seen by the latest Midland radar.

The midland webcams are looking pretty snowy right now - however roads look fairly clear at the moment

All-time record snowfall hits Midland

Midland has seen more snow this season than many other parts of the country that are usually buried in it around this time of the year.

On Monday, the Tall City set a new record of 0.69 inches of rain for Dec. 9 and received an all-time record of 10.6 inches of snow, as of 10:05 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Since Dec. 1, Midland has received a total of 19.3 inches during the course of three heavy snow events. The last record of snowfall during the season was set in 1946-47 with a total of 13.9 inches, officials said.

Cities across the United States that set record snowfall last year and normally see anywhere from 16 to 35 inches of snow have received less than Midland so far this season. Those in Aberdeen, S.D., have only received 0.6 inches of snow since Oct. 1 and Chicago, Ill., has only gotten 1.9 inches since Dec. 1. Last year, Chicago residents had received 16.8 inches at this time last year.
