It's encouraging to hear that there is a lot of storm activity at the moment, perhaps something which the Met Office slightly underestimated. I hope they reach this far north.

Still torrential rain here in Swindon, guttering can no longer cope and garden is looking more and more like a pond :o Still thundering, and still able to see the lightning. :o

To the West of the Pennines it's a different story. We've had light rain for the last hour which is now intensifying to the south of the city. Getting darker too.

To the west of the Pennines it is still dry and bright but it will go downhill there too during the afternoon.

On a normal day, that line of storms around the London area (and also some rumbling around Essex) would excite me, but the rate at which this rainband is moving, it's taking ages, and may die out electrically unless we can get some sun (unlikely).

I was going to ask if anyone has got a power cut , that that would be a silly question :o

Wind has picked up here. Fairly heavy constant rain now and the odd flash here and there.

Im hoping that the heavy stuff london way will move this way.

I take it you are not in West London then, I would not decribe it as a heavy downpour with Thunder!!!!!!

I take it you've been to India and experienced a Monsoon then, I would describe it as a heavy downpour.

The radar highlights just how heavy this precipitation band is though, shouldn't be underestimated by any means. I'm sure it's severe down there folks.

30 mins ago the rain looked like it would clear here but its heavier than ever - ridiculous weather

This is bizarre, I have cloud at high altitude moving north while at lower level there is broken cloud moving rapidly south, rain intensifying again - whats going on ??

It will be interesting to see what happens behind the main band.

Surely with all this water and fairly high temps in clear sky this afternoon I personally would expect to see some nice convection.

Ideas?

Not a sausage so far here in East Northamptonshire, just gusty winds and light-moderate rain at times. Some strikes about 25 miles to the south though.
