sky outside is getting as black as hell, the wind is evil and gusting all over sending the heaving rain in all directions. The thunder is getting more frequent, had some huge deep crashes, the kind that shakes the house walls.

Dogs, keep an ear to the local radio. it was invaluble to us up north in the last batch of flooding. trouble is when it (the water) wants to pay you a visit - it does as it likes. have the local council issued sandbags?

Hope everyone doesnt need this but in case..

What to do when you hear a flood warning :

listen out for warnings on radio and TV and phone Floodline on 0845 988 1188 for more information

move pets, vehicles, valuables and other items to safety

alert your neighbours, particularly the elderly

put sandbags or flood boards in place, but make sure your property is ventilated; plug sinks/baths and put a sandbag in the toilet bowl to prevent backflow

be ready to turn off gas and electricity (get help if needed); unplug electrical items and move them upstairs if possible

co-operate with emergency services and local authorities - you may be evacuated to a rest centre

do as much as you can in daylight; doing anything in the dark will be a lot harder, especially if the electricity fails

Great advice there - I hope not too many people have their house flooded, it must be awful.

Hi, Brian.

Yep - a great storm in Brum last night. Very wet and miserable here at present with the threat of more to come. Whether it proves to be electrical or not remains to be seen.

Regards,

Mike.

signing out now - back to the slog!

...........however, by the look of the radar, the worst seems to be keeping west of the M40 corridor at the moment: thank God!

Hi Mike

Yes it's nice to see some action in places that haven't had a great deal of activity recently.

I was pleasantly suprised when I turned on the radar and saw what was happening.

It is a different world here today where it is dry and cloudy but a little windier than it has been.

Anyway good luck for the rest of the day mate.

Brian :D

Looking at the radar sequence for the past few hrs I cannot believe how much rain is falling.

Just started to see heavy rain here but this seems more like a light shower compared to what some of you are seeing. if anyone has some pics please post them.

EDIT: Now Dark again!

That's what happened here after five hours - a twenty minute monsoon deluge that finished off the rain. Sun is out intermittently now and drying up.

Hey ho there you go.

Couple of pics taken on the slow drive home! This was before the very heavy rain! Still tipping down, wind is picking up too.

i know what you mean dogs32, it's getting like that here now. More like that kids tale of chicken lickin and the sky falling on your head. Rain here is getting seriously stupid, like someone emptying buckets from the roof
