Yesterday, 23 November 2008

It has been a cold and frosty night with the minimum air temperature getting down to –3.2c and –5.3c on the grass. Cloud and wind increased before dawn bringing outbreaks of light snow giving a slight covering for a couple of hours. The snow changed to sleet as less cold air moved through the area around 07:30hrs. Currently at observation, overcast with a force 4 southerly, moderate sleet. The rain and sleet cleared to brighter conditions later during the morning with some heavy showers which continued well in to the afternoon. After a brief maximum of 7.6c during the early part of the afternoon, the temperature fell sharply back in the afternoon showers to around 4c. Top wind speed 32mph from the W.

Lying snow almost completely melted overnight in Norwich and has continued melting this morning.

However, one of my favourite weather types has merely been replaced with another- we have sunshine and showers and some spectacular cumulonimbus cells floating about.

Things have really changed here since my last update; it's become rather cloudy

and the winds have picked up a fair bit.

Still a good amount of lying snow here.

Nice little wet snow/hail shower just blew through. Must have enough of an easterly component in the wind direction to bring them over the Pennines. Reminds me how exciting ‘wintry’ showers can be away from South London. Look forward to climbing up to 1000 ft this afternoon to collect my girl from school. Bring it on, I say :D
