After a cold first half of the night with an air frost, minimum –0.9c and a grass minimum of –4.1c, an increasing westerly wind bringing cloud lifted the temperature to well above freezing by 02:00hrs. By dawn it was mild at 8c, though overcast, dull and becoming rather damp due to condensation. The day continued overcast and dull with outbreaks of drizzle, mild though, top temperature 10.6c. Maximum wind gust 18.1mph WNW.

well the cold front has well and truly past over here now. fresh bright blue skies with scattred cumulonimbus pink shower clouds building, a beautiful sight. temp has dropped to from 5.1c to 4.3c in last half hour. humidity 95% and dew point of 3.5c. exciting times ahead.

I note the -5c 850 line is just to the north west of Scotland according to Netweather radar and therefore would expect the sleet being shown there to soon turn to snow.

By the way this seems rather odd doesn't it; http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7752213.stm. Note it mentions that "one of the coldest winters for some years predicted". I though the BBC obtained their weather information from the Met Office who say it will be average if not above average. What's going on?

Absolutely glorious weather here now in sunny Lowestoft.

A bit breezy, but it's always breezy next to the North Sea.

Temperatures here feeling cool at 6C with a strong WSW breeze. Dry but with some cloud around.

I also noticed on breakfast TV the other morning a representative of one of the gas companies [british gas?] giving a cold Winter prediction as one of the reasons for direct debit price hikes as they are expecting higher usage.

A friend also works for a more local power company's wholesale gas buyers and has said that they too have been warned that this Winter will be cooler.

I suppose that cooler than recent Winters may not mean that much though.
