downgrade by the looks of things

Yes, Saturday still looks like being wet and unsettled in the North, but the wind strengths

have certainly downgraded. It's perhaps a good thing though because that system did look

rather intense at times. :)

its been a funny winter storms wise.

Looking at the latest Model output, there is good alround agreement for High pressure to take control, so we may have to wait

some time before there's anything to discuss in this thread. Any Low pressure systems look like riding over the High and out

of harms way.

been happening a lot this winter. the Atlantic really hasn't got going for a sustained period of time like in previous winters. a couple of winters recently have seen a convoy belt of low pressures moving in one after the other.

winds are pretty strong here at the moment gusting 50 mph.

We haven't had any to be honest this winter. Brief frontal squalls but that's it.

Don't forget though 17th January this year the worse storm since 2005 winds well over 100mph hit Scotland.

not forgotten at all. but that one was one major one, usually we have a few big ones.

Now that it's spring the longest sustained blow beating anything offered by last winter. 58 mph max gust just shy of 59 mph recorded this winter. Wheres the 59 mph was brief gust there has been a few over 50 mph this afternoon.

Same here, Pit. We had a gust of 76 mph on Dec' 19th but, as you say, it was just one severe gust in a brief spell of gale force winds during the early evening. Yesterday saw sustained gale force winds and although the max' gust of 69 mph was lower than in December there were at least a dozen gusts over 60 mph.
