Buxton managed 20'c exactly today so here in Whaley Bridge i'd imagine we would have been slightly above that temperature. Since past 1pm however Topographic Convection has limited the temperature and its been back down to 18'c in Buxton.

I'd imagine without this High over us there would have been some real good storms kicking off here by now, but ive managed a bit of a tan in the garden so I cant complain too much :)

I'm assuming it's the station at Brierlow Bar you're looking at ;the sensor there tends to read several degrees on the high side in calm sunny weather. I don't think the sensor is exposed to the sun but it may be subject to reflected radiation from walls or hard surfaces nearby. I'm a few miles south of there at a similar altitude and the max' today in the screen with Met' office standard thermometers was 16.5c.

A sunny, almost cloudless day today with no more than a few isolated cumulus humilis.

A lovely day and feeling very like early summer. Just sat outside and had my first garden (well courtyard) beer of the year - without a coat! Still light past 8pm too - it's great having the outdoors back and the garden feeling like part of your home rather than a stark, cold & dark place to walk through on the way in/out.

My max of 20.8c seems wrong and I'd say we prob just made 18c. Now covered the sensor area in white paper (for now) to reflect back the sun a bit.

Still 15c - temp not dropping off too fast. Prob the reason it feels more like summer than spring - warmth is hanging about after dark.

Seems like the weather's been causing havoc with my thermometer as well - recorded 22.1 after an overnight minimum of 4.6. I suspect 19-20 was more like the real maximum here. Many local stations contributing to the wunderground site also recorded temperatures around 22 deg C, but it might be because they, like me, don't use a screen - will be interested to find out highest official temperature recorded today. Weather - mostly sunny after a foggy start to the south of Reading, wind light N-NE.

We have definatley surpassed 20.c here

Follow this link, it shows a map of weather stations across the Leeds and bradford area and the majority are reading 21/22/23.c atm, also if you navigate the map south, south yorkshire/east/north yorkshire are recording lower temps of around 16/17/18.c. Does anyone know what that effect is when cold air crosses over the mountains/pennines/ and when it moves down the temps increase significanltey, i think its called the fohan effect??

I'm pretty sure the Pennines aren't high enough for a significant Foehn effect to occur. What's more I live just to the west of the Pennines and it was almost as warm here today as it was to the east of the Pennines. In fact 19C was officially recorded at Woodford which is just south of where I live and to the west of the hills. This is up there with any official readings in the North East today.

A gorgeous summer-like day it has been today. Skies remained 95% clear all day with just a few small cumulus floating around to the far east and west during the mid-afternoon. Not only was it comfortable enough to sit on the terrace until after 8.30pm, it has also been the warmest day so far this month and year and the sunniest day of the year so far.

It does occur, it happened this year, in winter at some point, the temp in mid winter got up to 15.c when the Foehn effect occured, BBC weather were talking about, its on there website how it particulalry affects eastern scotland and Leeds

Also I seem to remember it getting up to 19C in the Scottish Highlands in February I think due to the Foehn.

almost certainly all the stations that showed temperatures in excess of 20-21C are those without any kind of screen, be it the type on auto weather stations or the traditional Stevenson type screen

Fohn or no fohn no one is likely to have been above about 21C at the max, and more likely 19-20C will be the officially accepted maximum once UK Met publish their data.

I see plenty of places tied for the highest maxima today.... however this figure was a mere 19c, no 20's let alone 25c

The min this morning was 3.4C at 6:09 and its dropped back to 7.3C now

edit: my 'A' key didnt seem to work a couple times!

Impressive diurnal temp ranges, down to 2C here, i recorded 19C yesterday so thats quite a difference, like i said almost winter to almost summer in one day, fantastic weather much better than summer anyway when you wouldn't get such diurnal temperature ranges because of such short nights.
