The atmosphere looks very unstable where the guys are. Looking carefully now for a funnel or tube to drop......

I might be inclined to target the cell near Mtador heading for - err - Turkey. Environment there more liable to lower the base and get rotation started.

I am not sure if that is just a dust storm or the after effects of a 72oz steak!!!

Looks like the guys have just turned North....finally. But it still looks as if they are behind the storm as I can see the blown out anvil and the the centre of the storm is still rain-wrapped.

They need to get ahead to be able to see what is happening under the base: spent too long watching the outflow methinks...

A DOW and a few mobile meso's just passed out the guys. Vortex 2 is well under way.

Also spotted the guys pulled in on Markus Pfister's live stream. Only barely though. Even though they are in poor coverage our stream is far better.

LOL. It looks like Tom is putting the boot down in Doghouse to get an other view of the DOW. Top man Tom!

Good looking storm!

I spotted the vortex team as well hope they have a booked hotel.

Danny.

I reckon they probably have Danny. I'd say Paul had a good idea they would be staying in Childress for a while now.

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

0816 PM CDT TUE MAY 12 2009

AREAS AFFECTED...NW TX...SW OK

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 290...

VALID 130116Z - 130315Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 290

CONTINUES.

SCATTERED SEVERE STORMS PERSIST ACROSS WW 290. SEVERAL OF THE CELLS

HAVE BEEN LEFT MOVING...BUT CONDITIONS MAY BE BECOMING MORE

FAVORABLE FOR EWD MOVING SUPERCELLS ACROSS NW TX AND SW OK...AS THE

LOW LEVEL JET INCREASES. VERY LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE

THE MAIN THREATS. A SMALL WW MAY BE REQUIRED ACROSS NW TX/SW OK.

THE 00Z OUN SOUNDING SHOWS SUBSTANTIAL CIN FOR A SURFACE TEMPERATURE

COOLER THAN THE MID 80S F. SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS RELATIVELY COOL

TEMPERATURES GENERALLY N OF I-40 AND E OF I-44...WHERE STRATUS HAS

BEEN IN PLACE MUCH OF THE DAY. MUCH STEEPER LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES

EXIST SW OF THIS AREA...WHICH IS WHERE A FEW OF THESE STORMS ARE

MOVING INTO.

AREA PROFILERS AND VWPS SHOW A RELATIVELY STRONG LOW LEVEL JET OF

30-40 KT ACROSS WRN OK INTO NW TX. AS STORMS MOVE INTO THIS

AREA...THEY WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR VERY LARGE HAIL GIVEN STRONG

INSTABILITY...STEEP MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND SUFFICIENT DEEP LAYER

FLOW. RELATIVELY HIGH T/TD SPREADS AND INCREASING CIN SUGGEST THE

TORNADO THREAT WILL BE LOW...ALTHOUGH VERY STRONG WINDS MAY OCCUR.

...ELEVATED MOISTURE RETURN BENEATH LINGERING STEEP MID-LEVEL

LAPSE RATES MAY CONTRIBUTE TO SUFFICIENT CAPE TO SUPPORT THE RISK

FOR VIGOROUS STORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING MARGINALLY SEVERE

LIKELY TO BECOME INCREASINGLY NEGLIGIBLE LATE THIS EVENING.

Well... today was interesting. Just booked in in Clinton, OK and gonna get 4 or 5 hours sleep before heading back out. Had no laptop all day as for some reason, the thing would not charge from my car charger (said it was plugged in but not charging) and I left with it only onl 10% battery thinking it would charge as I went along. Despite taht got some awesome shots. If you like Mammatus, you have to see the reports thread when I get chance to update :) Might not be today or tomorrow given the amount of driving I'll have to do...

Well today was AWESOME!! :)

Got the team to within 20 Miles of Initiation along the Dryline and followed the 1st Supercell North along the I27 Which became a Huge Duststorm - Then left that one and headed east through Turkey which got trashed, then followed a Cell East to the Highway 287 and then dropped South along with the Armada of Vortex2 who are staying in every blinkin Hotel in Childress Tonight and let that Storm come over. Had the closest Lightning bolt land about 50 yards behind us and Exploded (We have Video) and then the guys took some Incredible Structure, Lightning and Mammatus Shots, these Storms were way to High Based to drop Tornadoes Today but the Pics I am sure will blow you away!

I was on the I40 supercell and could see the cell down Childress way as I entered Oklahoma. Both looked like beauties and the anvil crawlers from the south seemed very frequent :) . Despite no tornadoes and putting myself out of position for tomorrow, I'm a happy bunny...
