I'm sure we had a similar thread last year, so would anybody like to hazard a guess?

I'll go for -20.4°C in somewhere like Braemar in early January.

Out of interest, does anybody have the data for the lowest official temp last winter?

Oh and if there is a similar thread knocking about apologies, just lock this one.

A little early to say but at the moment I will go for -17C in Aviemore. Not the lowest of temperatures as I feel this Winter will be on the mild side overall. As for my location, perhaps -5/6 as I'm now a little more rural than where I was previously.

-20.5 C second half of January ... could be south of Scotland too ... based on developing LRF concepts that include snow and cold in that part of winter.

Wow some of you seem confident of very low <-20C minima, i`m going for -17C in scotland, got a feeling this is going to be another decent winter like last winter but not severe.

I hope some of you are aware temps -20C or lower have only been recorded twice this decade in the UK.

Wow thats an excellent low figure for a winter on the mild side, top ten lowest UK minima it would make officially recorded since 1997.

Didn't say the uk so -67.8c outside UK (In russia)

In the uk -21.7c in Braemar Scotland which according to the 'wrong kind of snow' book wins hands down for recording more record cold nights then anywhere else over the winter period.

-28c would be a new record cant see that happening

-6C THIS WINTER GONNA BE MILD.

I'll be very impressed if nowhere manages to get -6C from this point on. Benson is likely to be the first to get this figure in England.

In reality I think Scotland as ever will have the lowest temperature this winter. I think -15C will be the final lowest temperature in Braemar or Aboyne!

Perhaps but the very mild winter of 1997/1998 (winter mean slightly more then 2.0c above normal) still managed a low of -17.0c after a cold surge at the start of March 1998 (Altnahara) and March that year turned out exceptionally mild.
