Flakes are tiny now but intensity only dropped slightly, shame the flakes could not be as big all the way through the band as they were in the beginning but never mind.

Decent covering here in leam lane now, going back to Pelaw soon, should be interesting.

Hi just popped in your thread to see what that band produced, cheers :(

Heavy snow here atm. Just driven back through Durham City and the roads were ok but it's a nightmare on Potter's Bank, Lowes Barn Bank and up to Neville's Cross. Taken me 10 mins to get up avoiding the people who can't drive. Looks like another hour of snowfall left. Not sure of depth but must be a couple of inches down already. :(

Still snowing heavily here, but probably not too much more to come. It's put down a good 2-3 inches, maybe more.

Pics coming soon.

Been at leas 15 mins since I took those and it's still snowing so there's even more now.

If this was a weeknight it would have been chaos around here, doubt I would have made it home from Consett.

Still about 5cm at Cleadon- heavy wet snow which has produced slightly more accumulation than ablation, but pretty marginal (mostly around 1C)- I reckon that if it had been 0.5C lower I'd be approaching 10cm by now. Some of the higher parts may well be getting major accumulations here.

New Year's Eve 2003 leading into New Year's Day 2004. Produced just a slushy dusting at Cleadon which soon melted, but probably a fair amount of snow further inland & upwards!

Looking at the radar it should stop soon and the snow is easing off now, shame it could not add much more but it still produced a decent covering considering it started as sleet and wet snow.

I have to say though that the roads are pretty bad, Gateshead council should hand their heads in shame because they have not been gritted at all and i never saw one gritter truck on my way back home.

9cm so far now, about 6cm from this event after the previous snow was still on the ground. Still snowing, but easing slightly so I suspect it will ease within the next half hour. A raging snowball fight just took place outside :wallbash:

About 3" fresh snow at Ferryhill. Heavy snow still falling. Big flakes. Heaviest since New Years Eve 2004 (is that year right?)

Nope, late Feb 05 and March 12 06 are at least two occasions I can recall when theres been more snow down there. My Grandma just lives at Rushyford. Maybe even Dec 5 08 and early Feb 09 would both of had more snow.

That is quite annoying actually SW. I'm just speaking for my own location. With respect, what fell at Rushyford is irrelevant as far as i'm concerned. And I said 'heaviest', not depth accumulated.

Well actually reading back I can see what you mean, I apologise.

Real intense spell at the moment with increased winds. Drifting conditions.

I don't think the word "intense"is appropriate at all.

Light to moderate snow (mostly light in intensity) is falling in the Durham City area and I don't see much drifting.

Current amount that I've measured is 4cm. Not bad I suppose.

Very light now.

Even if we get no more snow in the coming days I would expect some to remain on the ground for Christmas Day, especially up here in Stanley/Consett etc.

Going out in the morning down to the woods at Beamish for some photos, looking at this street I think i'll be walking down. Nobody's getting out of here anytime soon!

You're right, I'd agree with you in general. Was just a 5 minute spell earlier, when the wind increased out of nowhere.

Already down to -2°C here with lots of cloud and a few light snow flurries left behind. It's going to get REALLY cold later!
