This warm front has brought a rather unexpected 3.1 mm so far which takes the monthly total to 71.4mm, still below average but striving desperately to reach it. Another 10mm required to reach the August average over the last 30 years and this seems a very big ask indeed.

A further 3.8mm of rain today from the heavy showers taking us to 51.6mm this month and 106% of normal. Its the first month since February to record an amount above average (though only just).

7.5 mm since midnight but even this hasn't quite dragged us up to average. Very little chance of any more rain in the remaining two days of the month.

Here in Central Southern England with the exception of July this year mirrors last very dry march to june last year july soaking wet, this year july was also dry but august a bit in and out.In truth though weve been close to drought conditions until perhaps the last two weeks.

As a gardener though hedges ect and fruit have been prolific, perhaps off of the massive influx of snow melt water in jan and feb.

In terms of rainfall, August has been strange, a lot of dry days and a very dry start and probable end to the month. But the rainfall from Thursday 19-26th of the month, probably in the region of 4-5 inches, makes this a wet month.

However we have had a lot of months where it has rained on a lot more days being much drier.

Well the month clocks out with only 76% of rainfall here despite raining on everyday bar four. Strange really.

Well if GP post in model forum is correct and we do have a dry winter we'll have problems next year. Dams are fairly low and I know Derwent was very low earlier on and Ladybower itself wasn't too bad then.

Well, the first 8 months of this year continue the trend of being the driest here since 1996, 4 mm less rainfall and it would be the driest first 8 months since 1976. The subsoil must be very dry as the Thorn trees on the thin limestone soils are showing vivid autumn colours already, a sure sign of dry roots. Although August eventually managed 75 mm of rain it was spread over the whole month in small amounts which only briefly penetrated the vegetation and never really soaked the soil. The last month to recieve 100mm or more was December 09.

No complaints on this occasion about the rain missing me. 29.3 mm fell in the 24 hrs to 0800 g.m.t, which is about as much as anywhere in the locality got, and makes Sept' 6th the wettest day of the year so far.

Ey Plenty here as well. 32.6mm fell in about 9 hours. Mind you today's heavy showers haven't turned up just the odd spot of rain. So now we're on 50% of rainfall for September already.

There was around 10mm of rain here Monday evening which is a lot less than many surrounding areas, im really surprised how everything is so green around here though, July & August were both two of the greyest on record here yet despite many days with rainfall there were very few properly wet days, in fact 18mm is the highest in 24 hours fall there has been this year which was back in June.

After 5 bone dry days to kick start September, Monday evening and overnight into tuesday morning saw some very heavy rain and we saw a very strong thunderstorm yesterday afternoon - total amount of rain so far this month just above an inch. Quite small compared to much of the rest of the country. We escaped the heavy showers today these reserved for the east side of the Pennines. Friday looks like quite a wet day perhaps another half an inch - all fairly normal for this stage in Sept.

Although we did water it regularly through the early summer dry period, I can't remember seeing my lawn looking so green, lush and healthy in the 5+ years I've lived here. Definitely no signs of dry weather remaining here, from what I can remember the rains have been pretty regular since around mid-July. Even though things did get pretty dry round here through June, and rainfall was low throughout the year until recently, it seems to me as though there was a lot of hype and panic over droughts etc that once again amounted to nothing and will quickly become a thing of the past as Autumn pushes in. Reminds me of last year where talks of drought in this area continued through the summer and into October (November obviously broke any ideas about the dry weather continuing) as the fine, dry weather continued bringing about the sensationalist type posts warning of water shortages etc, however I'm honestly yet to see any real repercussions from such things other than a rather skeptical hose-pipe ban in the North-West that seemed to spell a premature end to their summer with it deciding to rain on almost the exact day it was put in place and never really stopping since.
