I clocked that one mate. Plenty of mammatus and very dark skies. Nothing on radar however to suggest any thundery activity.

But a short (and I mean S H O R T!) spell of a few large raindrops. With diurnal heating now all but gone, I can't see anything else occuring out of it. But it was the most threatening looking sky I've seen for a good month or so,

Phil.

Its actually pepped up quite a bit in the past hour or so, feeding off an area of local low level wind convergence....no energy or lift to support t-storms, but enough convergence to give a few peeps a surprise downpour over the east midlands towards The Wash

yep, Anvilcrawler's post pretty much summed up my thoughts

Well checking a few sources today I am a little more encouraged for the SE area late afternoon. The 12Z Herstmonceux sounding (when it finally comes out) will be enlighten us a little more but we may already be watching the radar by then.

(as of last night)

Here's the other feature behind the cloud front, but someone clever needs to explain the detail and any significance in this one (I just read vorticity!)

Coast, I think those satrep images can be a bit misleading at times, the frontal wave triple point is somewhere over south Wales moving ESE currently looking at recent synoptic analysis from MetO, though they haven't updated their fax for 0600 this morning yet.

BBC FORECAST

Storms developing near the wash , heavy showers and storms moving eastward during the day... We need to watch these as they could be intense in places :):unknw:

Interesting radar loops too

Rather odd looking frontal wave structure on the 06z fax! Seems to be split cold front structure with post frontal trough coming in from the west for southern England today, this will likely be focus for possible storms along southern counties today:

I like it when we get features like this - I love stepping outside and feeling the jump in temperature/humidity from being under the warm sector of the LP system.

Lets just PRAY we get something today...with the potential for thunderstorm organisation, particularly into linear form, these are the days when more people stand a chance of getting some action :nonono:
