Yup, they radiate from the Perseus constellation. Though it's best not to focus in any one spot as they can occur over most of the sky, just generally look high up towards the north east.

The moon will be setting before 10pm so should be perfect conditions!

:)

UPDATE: apparently seeing a ZHR of up to 25 at the moment, which is promising, and also weather seems to be good for Thursday, with any showers clearing.

Well Perseids are visible anywhere in the sky, but they point back towards Perseus. Perseus more or less rises as it gets dark, but the best viewing is after midnight, when the earth is facing the debris stream of temple tuttle, and so meteors aren't having to play 'catch up' to the earth.

I'm going to have a look again tonight, as it looks like it's clearing up nicely outside :D

Looking disappointing weather wise tonight, didn't see any last night due to cloud cover. Will I EVER see a maximum date shower without cloud cover! Not seen one since I first got interested around 5 years ago!

Perhaps meteor showers are a foolproof method of predicting cloudy nights???

Always works for me!

Its going to be frustrating if this cloud stays around

Only a 2-day-old sliver, moonlight will be very limited, making conditions for meteor observation very favorable (as long as the sky is clear of course).:girl_devil:

After an afternoon of storms, it's cleared up, but looking at http://www.sat24.com/gb it's the bank of cloud in the North Sea that could be the killer :)

Sky's clearing nicely here. Sun sets at 8:35, so hopefully we'll get a good show.

Yes after heavy showers and even large Hail its clearing here to.

Interesting the meteorite count has dropped in the last few hours, a dip before the peak, Hmm who knows!

Secret

Go outside, drop you trousers, that'll scare most things away.

PS You can keep your clouds it's partially clear here so a clear evening would be nice for the first time in years.

Get arrested!

Just tell the arresting plod that it's for scientific purposes. In other words... "No Moon, I'm just clearing the atmosphere!" (Then again, the plod prescence would be polluting it!) dry.gif

Good luck to all with spotting any Perseids tonight. Best time is tonight at around 11pm and overnight. :drinks:

Phil.

Not surprised as radar shows precip not cloud.

Any of these set to hit earth?

Considering their size, they are really only particles so there's no impact from these, as they burn up in the atmosphere.
