So despite parts of the Midlands having their coldest September day since 1994 the CET only falls 0.1c to 14.9;

Do we believe this?

The cool max temps were offset by the relatively high minimum of 10.3C. Today will be the first big fall IMO.

Yesterday morning wasn't that cold, Gavin. Minima were in double figures. For big drops, you need both parts, maxima and minima to play ball.

Yeah, minima wasn't that cold, but even so with places like Coventry having their coldest September day (maxima) for 16 years;

http://bws.users.netlink.co.uk/

I still find it a little surprising the fall wasn't bigger. Just wondering if Sep 24th might make up part of the month end correction? Still a pretty large deviation between Manley and Hadley of 0.5c

http://climate-uk.com/

So still definatly room for a month end reduction with Hadley.

And to make things more interesting today tonight's lows should all be in the west while eastern areas of the CET zone may stay in double figures. This is due to cloud and rain encroaching.

It seems like a frost is very likely in most western places tonight away from the coast. This should average the CET out and see a fairly big drop for tomorrow.

I'll go for 0.2c drop.

14.6 to the 25th . That's a 0.3oc drop since yesterday! Can't access the value for the 25th, would expect a mean of around 9oc would have been required to achieve that drop.

Yes, the value was 8.5C yesterday, so rather cold!

Today's min is down as 4.9C, so we could be on for another sub-10C day and a further 0.2C drop tomorrow.

Just so long as it keeps dropping, I need all the help I can get....

14.4C to the 26th.

http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/cet_info_mean.html

Minimum for today is 8.7C and max temps look around 14C, so we should drop to 14.3C by tomorrow. Looks like we'll finish the month on 14.3C as well.

I'd say 14.0C or 14.1C most likely after corrections.

My 13.8C is in with a shout after corrections I think so the area were looking at is 13.7C - 14C maybe?

I'd be inclined to keep my freezer and fridge open for the next 3 days just to help bring it down a bit...13.5c is still a long way off. Maybe I should actually look at models and teleconnections before I try a CET guess, I used to, but now I just put a random figure near normal, like the meto do.

Doubt we will see a sub 14 degree month unless with some marked downward corrections. I think 14.1 will be the finishin mark with the CET for the next three days looking to remain static, mind Friday could produce some low maxima where rain is heavy maxes of 13-14 degrees.

My 13.9 degrees is one of my better predictions of the year..

14.3C to the 27th

http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/cet_info_mean.html

Minimum for today is 11.2C and maxima look set to be around 17C so probably no change by tomorrow. Still looks like finishing on 14.3C (between 14.25-14.30) before corrections, so an adjusted figure of 14.0 or 14.1C looking most likely to me.

Philip Eden has the CET at 13.8C for 1-27th September, so I think touch and go whether Hadley will record a sub 14 month after downward corrections. They have 14.3C to the 27th.

14.3C to the 28th

http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/cet_info_mean.html

The forecast for the remainder of the month is looking a little cooler now and there's a reasonable chance of making 14.2C by the 30th. High 13s now in with a shout after corrections imo.

Yes the cooler days are hanging in there a cold night tonight should bring another drop. My guess isn't looking so embarrassing now.

Climate UK statistics for September as follows:-

CET: (Sep 1-30): 13.9°C ( +0.2 degC)

E&W Rain: (Sep 1-30): 78.0mm ( 94 per cent)

E&W Sun: (Sep 1-30): 142.0hr ( 98 per cent)

Met Office Hadley as of the 29th was on 14.3C. Yesterday will probably see 0.1C knocked off that figure with final adjustments to follow.

Looks like a remarkably average month in all respects then. Somehow it seemed worse than that though - guess the rest of the month made up for the dry and sunny first few days...

In the meantime I was away the first week with no internet access, so nul points for me :)
