UK Outlook for Saturday 31 Dec 2016 to Monday 9 Jan 2017:

Over the New Year weekend the southern half of the UK is likely to be mostly dry at first, although rather cloudy with fog possible. It will be cold, especially if the fog persists, with overnight frost. In the north of the UK, outbreaks of rain are likely, which will move erratically southwards over the weekend to the rest of the UK. This will be followed by brighter and colder conditions with wintry showers, especially in the north and east, and widespread frost. Into the start of January high pressure is likely to dominate once more, giving mostly settled conditions with frost and perhaps some fog. However, a weather system could push in from the north-west, giving windy conditions and a band of rain, sleet or snow for a time.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 10 Jan 2017 to Tuesday 24 Jan 2017:

Despite a good deal of uncertainty during this time, signals do point towards high pressure being dominant across most of the UK. This means some longer drier and quieter spells are likely, and thus a greater likelihood of colder conditions, with frost and fog by night. There may be a few brief spells of unsettled weather, mainly in north-western parts of the UK. Temperatures are likely to be cold for the time of year during the settled periods, but turning milder in association with any periods of more unsettled weather.

TBH i find these updates not very useful at all, very broad and cover all possibilities. Yes i know thats what they are meant for to give a general idea but not often they end up being like that come T+0. Plus you find they are worded very similar for two to three updates running then change a fair bit for the next two or three updates.

I bet come tomorrow/wednesday updates it will mention more about the potential cold spell and feature more in the way of wintry weather... lets see if i'm right or get this comment slapped back in my face

UK Outlook for Sunday 1 Jan 2017 to Tuesday 10 Jan 2017:

A band of persistent rain will move southwards across the country during New Year's day. Further north, as the rain band clears, it will become colder and clearer, though with showers later. These will fall as rain at first, but perhaps change to snow later. Another band of rain may move south-eastwards over the country in the middle of next week, turning it less cold for a time. Again it may change to snow for a time in the north. South-western parts will probably stay dry. The following weekend is likely to be bright, cold and mostly dry, though wintry showers are possible in the north. Night frost will be widespread, perhaps with mist and fog. However, the far northwest could briefly get some wet and windy weather.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 11 Jan 2017 to Wednesday 25 Jan 2017:

Signals suggest that the most likely scenario for this period is high pressure being dominant across most of the UK. This would mean long dry and quiet spells, and thus a greater likelihood of cold weather with frost and fog by night. However, there may be a few spells of unsettled weather, most likely in north-western parts. In general, temperatures are likely to be cold for the time of year in those settled periods. Not very inspiring for snow lovers then!!That said, there are so many options of where the High pressure sits goinf into 2017 as IF suggested late last night but percentage wise they are rightly going for the preferred option. :)Doesnt mean it is right though

UK Outlook for Monday 2 Jan 2017 to Wednesday 11 Jan 2017:

Many places will see sunshine at the start of next week, but it will be a lot colder than recently with widespread frosts. It'll be dry for many areas although wintry showers will affect parts of the north and north-east, as well as perhaps some eastern and western coastal areas. Through the rest of the week, it will stay generally settled, with occasional bands of rain moving south-east across the UK, this occasionally turning to snow in the north. The following weekend and into the next week is likely to be bright, cold and mostly dry, although with wintry showers in the north, and occasional brief milder and wetter interludes. Winds will be light in the south, with stronger winds and perhaps gales at times in the north.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 3 Jan 2017 to Thursday 12 Jan 2017:

It'll be cold and bright across England and Wales on Tuesday, although cloudier and milder conditions across Scotland will gradually move southwards across the whole of the UK, with some rain, mainly over the hills. Largely cloudy, milder and windier for most on Wednesday, with some brighter spells in the east. Thursday and Friday will be dominated by a west to north-westerly flow, with wet and windy conditions moving from west to east, with gales in places. Into the weekend and next week we'll gradually see high pressure building to the west, which will allow colder conditions to develop for many, with some wintry showers in places, particularly around coastal areas. Chilly by night, with widespread frost and fog, which may persist during the day.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 4 Jan 2017 to Friday 13 Jan 2017:

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy across the UK, with patchy light rain and drizzle at times, mainly over hills and coasts in the north and west, whilst mostly dry elsewhere. Rain will be moving south-eastwards on Thursday, introducing brighter and colder conditions, with some wintry showers across the far north, these extending southwards. A colder north to north-easterly is likely to become established from Friday onwards, with frequent wintry showers across northern and eastern parts of the UK, particularly down the North Sea coasts. However, there will be a good deal of dry and sunny weather elsewhere. Some cold and clear nights, with widespread frost and the risk of icy patches. Some cloudier, milder interludes are possible at times, particularly in the west. Temperatures generally below the average throughout.

UK Outlook for Saturday 14 Jan 2017 to Saturday 28 Jan 2017:

Latest suggestions favour a continuation of a very 'blocked' pattern, with drier and colder than normal conditions across the UK, and an increasing risk of fog and frost. However, we are likely to see brief, milder and wetter conditions at times. Generally, temperatures are expected to be below the average. There is a low risk of very cold conditions developing should the 'blocked' pattern persist, allowing a colder easterly flow to become established, with associated threat of snow in places.

UK Outlook for Thursday 5 Jan 2017 to Saturday 14 Jan 2017:

Mostly cloudy across the west of the UK on Thursday with some light rain, mainly over coasts and hills in the west/north-west. Generally drier and brighter in the east with some sunny spells. A weakening band of rain then moves south over Scotland into Friday, probably reaching southern England later on Friday. A colder north to north-easterly is then likely to become established from Friday onwards, with frequent wintry showers across northern and eastern parts of the UK, particularly down the North Sea coasts. However, there will be a good deal of dry and sunny weather elsewhere. Some cold and clear nights, with widespread frost and the risk of icy patches. Further fluctuations between milder interludes and colder spells are likely later in the period. Temperatures generally below average throughout.
