The rains just stopped here, now its a case of waiting to see if those showers over the South West explode and hoping to see some sunshine at least this afternoon to aid convection.

Still a lot of left over cloud being stubborn to clear....

...but still a lot of time left.

http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ higher temps still yet to edge their way into the Midlands through the clear slot. However the pieces are starting to fit together and it won't be to long before surface-based convection becomes initiated in one or two isolated areas. This will be enough lifting to trigger yet more showers around the inflow/outflow vicinity before the heating truly comes into work later on in the afternoon. North of Southampton is where i'm expecting the first of the homegrown storms to initiate from within the next hour.

Holy smokes!.....Convective energy has just exploded in the wake of the MCS remnant over the south midlands, already hit 1000j/kg, with a lifted index of -3 already...Thats quite remarkable considering that only an hour ago that area was under heavy cloud cover...Talk about a loaded gun scenario!

Very warm when the sun comes out and nice and humid :D A few cells also look like they are trying to form over SW Scotland for the central belters.

Looks like this area of rain over me is clearing, sun starting to shine through.

I imagine it will heat up rapidly once the sky turns blue and what with all the rain that has fallen recently there will be plenty of vapour to form storms. Bring it!

Which detector? I'm back in Killie today and don't have my favourites on this computer. Those small cells look to be heading this way.

Strikes may be from the very intense downpour just moving onshore to the west of Dumfries? Or they could be for the cells to the NW of Dumfries which are heading approximately this direction :D

Rain has now stopped here and it feels like its getting warmer. Just looking at the GFS...CAPE is looking tastey!

RASP keen to keep the CAPE further out to the West, with convection breaking out over Wales into the Irish Sea. Realistically if you shift the projection Eastwards over Central area's somewhat it gives a more accurate depiction of whats going on. I think the RASP was compensating for the area of rain being slower than it actually was so shifted it all out West.

However rainfall projections are moderate-torrential in these forecasted cells which is good if you like your SLW potential, bad in terms of photography unless your lucky enough to be on a SE quadrant of anything that passes over (or chasing.)

This mornings rain was forecast last night imo. However it will quickly warm up and become very humid now.

What a night!

Was up Portsdown Hill near me till 3am this morning, just watching the main bulk move in (with quite a wind shear and some small rotating funnels) then smaller but more active sferics move across, was fantastic to watch!

Heres for tonight! drinks.gif

SkyWarn UK Alert Update (11.30 UTC , 12.30 BST)

SKYWARN UK SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING #026

ISSUED: 1130UTC, SATURDAY 7TH MAY 2011

SKYWARN UK HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING REGIONS:

NORTH WALES

MIDLANDS

EAST ANGLIA

NORTH ENGLAND

SOUTH SCOTLAND

DISCUSSION:

HIGH RESOLUTION MODEL GUIDANCE AND PARTNER AGENCY WARNINGS ARE PROVIDING SUFFICIENT CONFIDENCE OF A SEVERE CONVECTIVE THREAT ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE MAINLAND UK FROM LUNCHTIME ONWARDS. THE CURRENT UNSTABLE AIRMASS ADVECTED NORTH FROM THE CONTINENT WILL INCUR A STRENGTHENING WIND PROFILE AS THE DAY PROGRESSES. ISOLATED STORMS WILL INITIATE IN WALES, SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL ENGLAND, CONTINUING THROUGH THE MIDLANDS, WITH EXISITING STORMS MATURING AND THE CHANCE OF SUPERCELLS GIVEN THE DEEP LAYER SHEAR PROFILE. STRONGER SURFACE WINDS THROUGH NORTHWESTERN AND NORTHERN ENGLAND INTO SOUTHERN SCOTLAND LATER IN THE DAY MAY PROVIDE SUFFICIENT SUPPORT FOR TORNADOES, MORE LIKELY STRONG TO SEVERE GUSTS OF UP TO 60MPH. STORMS MAY WELL EVOLVE INTO AN MCS INTO THE EVENING THOUGH THIS DOES NOT DIMINISH THE WARNING.

http://www.skywarn.org.uk/current.html

Once this band making its way up from N.England clears through , i think the probability of the southern half of scotland getting t-storms is very high :drinks:

Im glad to say that the sun has come out and temp now 20.4C and humidity 73%, which should help with any convection?

Got some pics from the video I took last night (sorry for the bad quality)
