Yes, but I'm excited that I'll be working at good height and be able to see what's heading our way.

Please don't fall off that roof trying to watch for a storm, posting on here and looking at the radar at the same time! It is Friday 13th after all!

Very heavy shower here currently just large rain drops no hail yet. There is a lot of deep convection around these parts with some impressive cloud structures accompanied with very dark low bases. Hopefully this afternoon we could see one or two thunderstorms.

Those are the ones. Didn't they look great against the sunset?

Certainly did. Here's hoping Saturday provides even better looking sky's towards the afternoon and evening :)

I would have thought you were at the lower extremes of anything kicking around this afternoon, but then what do I know!!!

Nothing as spectacular than the video of the 'shotgun' bolt but what appears to be a small wall cloud from an earlier cell, dont think it was electrically charged but if the winds were more favourable I think a funnel could have been produced, pretty special for here on the NE coast.

Photos taken on my phone so not great..! Looked far better in person..

We keep getting hit by some really heavy showers which have been knocking the temperature down to about 13C, none of them are electrical though. :(

No thunderstorms today but im not going to complain as plants are well watered and the rain has washed away all that pollen floating around in the air.

Pretty potent cell just moved out to sea. Didn't hear any thunder but I did see hail curtains as it passed 8-10 mile to my north.

I really cannot remember whether Derechos were mentioned in the summation of storms I read yesterday and now I can't find it. Anyway at great risk of repitition Derechos should be mentioned so here goes.

What kind of storms cause derechos?

Derechos typically are associated with bands of showers or thunderstorms (collectively referred to as "convection") that assume a curved or bowed shape. The bow-shaped storms are called bow echoes. A derecho may be associated with a single bow echo or with multiple bows. Bow echoes themselves may consist of an individual storm, or may be comprised of a series of adjacent storms (i.e., a "squall line" or "quasi-linear convective system") that together take on a larger scale bow shape. Bow echoes may dissipate and subsequently redevelop during the course of given derecho. Derecho winds occasionally are enhanced when a rotating band of storms called a "bookend vortex" develops on the poleward side of the bow echo storm system. Derecho winds also may be enhanced on a smaller scale by the presence of embedded supercells in the derecho-producing convective system.

I won't woffle on a Derecho facts page.
