The contrast between south yorkshire and north yorkshire/teeside appears to be very marked in terms of temps - Darlington at 12 degrees and just south of Doncaster 21 degrees.. suggests the cold front has enveloped north east england with cloud sheet but not reached south yorkshire yet. Here west of the Pennines we have done very well so far today with the sun still shining and only patches of cumuls cloud and no real sign of the cloud sheet associated with the cold front just yet. The Pennines is acting as a barrier and preventing the cloud sheet making its way to the Lake District. Consequently temps here are in the high teens.

It is much breezier though and the wind has a little edge to it so certainly feels much fresher than yesterday.

Tonight could be interesting for southern and south west parts with heavy convection in places as the cold front engages the warm air.

It's been generally cloudy here since about 1000 g.m.t and, for the last couple of hours, there's been a line of showers about 20-25miles to the south which fizzle away to nothing between Nottingham and here. Still quite warm with the temp' currently around 18c but the NE wind has increased to f4 in the last hour after decreasing temporarily earlier this afternoon.

Indeed maybe some brighter skies from Tuesday with rain or showers in between, the east is likely to see temperature between 15c and 18c for just about every day so in any sunny spell it will be very nice the west will be a good few degrees cooler 9c to 13c, with early indications of a warm up from next Saturday, what remains unclear is just how much rain will fall next week.

A mixed day, after a stunning morning with wall to wall sunshine, cloud bubbled up during the early afternoon before a narrow area of think cloud has been here for a couple of hours, with the odd spot of rain.

Signs of turning brighter again from the east.
