I have to admit i have my first frost tonight. Air or ground i dunno but also dont care. Frost is frost. Thick layer on cars but not grass from what i can see.

airfrost is when frost sticks to everything but the ground, and ground frost is where frost readily sticks to the ground and makes it an icerink if its been raining or snowing before hand.

Airfrost usually occurs when the ground temp is warmer than the air temp..thus frost forms on things that are above the warmer air on the ground (floor, pavement, road etc) it would appear from your discription you had an airfrost, not a ground frost...here we had our third ground frost of this winter last night, before it turned mild and rainy....tonight is even colder...and clear as bell, so we could see very low temps quite readily everywhere..-3/-4C perhaps and maybe lower in frost hollows.

This morning was a little cracker, Nearly a couple of inches, and most of it fell in just over an hour, some of the biggest flakes i have ever seen, mind you there was some dangerous conditions as a result, still a very nice suprise though, id only just gone to bed after the fight, so i dont know how the hell i managed to wake up just before the mini pasting.

Temps are set to rise after midnight as a westerly wind develops and the cloud moves in, advancing quite fast looking at the satellite images.

Currently 1.0c after an earlier dip to 0.6c.

I doubt we'll see any wind increases certainly not until nearer to dawn. I think places away from the coast are going to get a good ground frost

this evening / overnight before the cloud and the rain move in again...but there really is no wind anywhere at least not here..id be surprised

if even anything from the west produces any noticeable wind speed either.

Wonder whether we will see any snow from the front passing tomorrow. Snow on the leading edge seems a distinct possibility.

Nothing astronomical but precip is popping up out of nowhere. They could be echoes though.

I didn't say it was going to get windy, the wind near the western coasts is predicted to increase from a westerly direction about 10-15mph and this combined with the cloud spreading over later will send the temps upwards. the cloud will ruin frost chances even if the wind doesn't, the further away from the coastal regions you happen to be will make a big difference tonight, unit the clouds reaches inland.

Temp has risen here and is now 2.9c, a frost set in soon after sunset but it's all gone.

Now it's shot up to 2.5c.
