Not seen any snow here since mid December. Well, could have been some today while I was at work on the coast, but if there was it didn't settle. Showers heading this way by the looks of the radar.

Temp: 1.9c

I will be surprised if you dont see any snow over the next 3 days.

Sunday looks interesting for this location at the moment. But obviously the forecast can change so much over a few days... With even more doubt hanging over the forecast than usual I'd be impressed if the current forecasts prove to be accurate. Like you said, should get something soon though!

Didn't have any snow today where i was in Bridgend although we had hail & thunder. Higher parts of Swansea had some wet snow so i have heard.

Looking at the NAE 12z it is likely that some wintry showers will continue to effect western/north western parts of Wales tonight. As for tomorrow if we look at the Met Office fax chart for Mid day Friday we can see that their is a trough moving through Wales in the NW flow with an occluded front lying across northern parts of the country associated with the low pressure system seen here:

http://www.meteociel.../fax/fax24s.gif

The NAE 12z for the same time shows sub 528 DAM air:

http://expert-images...012712_2612.gif

Upper air temperatures around -4C lowering to -5C:

http://expert-images...012712_2612.gif

http://expert-images...012715_2612.gif

Precipitation moving through most likely in response to that trough swinging through as we have seen above on the FAX chart:

http://expert-images...012712_2612.gif

http://expert-images...012715_2612.gif

http://expert-images...012718_2612.gif

Again i think it looks fairly marginal for snow away from hillier areas with most likely rain/sleet/hail to low ground, the reason i think this is because of the dew points which are shown on the NAE to be above freezing around 1-3C as the precipitation moves through as seen here:

http://expert-images...012700_2612.gif

http://expert-images...012715_2612.gif

Although by evening those dew points are at or just above freezing so if any precipitation is still around some wet snow will be possible, especially in central and northern parts of Wales:

Just went out in the garden and the grass is covered by about half an inch of ice/slush mix, very crunchy underfoot. So the first settling snow of the winter, and I missed it being in work. Got my priorities wrong.

The dew points this afternoon were hardly conducive to snow either

I do find it quite strange that this winter we have had a lot of marginal events which have given a bit of snow, but this one seems to given a fair amount of snow, with very similar synoptic patterns to previous less snowy events. This is on SW winds, widely regarded as the worst for snow.

I am not saying your analysis is wrong, it is first class as always,

Just had some rain/hail and the temperature is on the rise, now 3.5C, what could be causing the temperature to rise?

The increase in cloud cover with the precipitation could cause the temperature to rise.

Good point Jackone perhaps we could see some more general light snow Sunday Monday ,i think the met believe the weak east wind is going to have a bigger influence in the south UK than the models are saying.

Light snow or sleet (hard to tell in the dark- no lampposts in the countryside) here now - it's deposited a dusting at any rate.

Radar shows some beefy showers further North, hoping that these continue as flow turns more NWerly.

The chart does show the wind turns to a more N Westerly tomorrow (as Mike pointed out) around 12 before showers becoming heavier before dying out after dark.Perhaps a streamer could form.

Severe Weather Warning tomorrow for ice

Issued at - 26 Jan 2012, 19:57

Valid from - 26 Jan 2012, 20:00

Valid to - 27 Jan 2012, 11:00

Icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces, especially in places affected by showers. The showers will fall as snow above about 250 metres, but there may be temporary slush deposits to lower levels.

The public should be aware of possible travel disruption.

The public is advised to take extra care, further information and advice can be found here: http://www.metoffice...r/uk/links.html

Saying that temps have risen here as well, and just been outside and you can definitely hear the snow/slush melting.

Heavy sleet which turned to snow here for an hour this evening, left a covering.

Wales was specifically mentioned for Sunday snow on the BBC News 24 forecast at 9.58, although the lack of certainty was also mentioned.

GFS 18z now got us in the firing line in Wales for snow early sunday morning and through the day!

That stalling front should pile the snow up nicely in our neck of the woods

Front sits over Wales from Sunday to Tuesday - all wintry precip = lots of potential snow!

The front is sitting over us but according to the GFS it is falling as rain. I'm hopeful for snow though, these situations are hard to predict and we deserve it :p

Sorry mate - You cannot be Andy Music.

The real Andy Music would be doing stuff like this:

BLIZZARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cold:

SNOW-mageddon!!!!!!!!!!! :cold:

And he would insert some ridiculously mental weather on line charts.

PUT ANDY BACK OR ELSE....

I concur - went to Merthyr - from Bargoed, via Pontlottyn around 5pm and it was treacherous and the snow in this area quickly accumulated to at least 2 inches - roads were awful. Came back same route at around 9:30 and the ice and frozen slush is really abysmal - not even seen a gritter!

Take it easy peeps if you are around this area Friday monring.
