Right well the rain and wind have stopped. if it has somehow missed me I shall not be best pleased.

The windsurfing world record may have been broken at West Kirby on the Wirral (Merseyside) today, 50knts or 57mph in f8-f10 winds....

Both the wind and rain have calmed for me here in Brighton...however, the radar tells me that the squall is about to hit! Maybe this is the legendary calm before the storm...

I hope so. I always just miss out on the action.

Snapshot video of the squall line as it passed through at work. The usual dark clouds then sudden drop in temps etc. Video doesn't convey how much rain has fallen and the industrial estate is now partially flooded:

I could see the squall line approaching from the north west and the weirdest thing was you could visibly see it getting darker by the second - thought my eyes were playing up. Lovely blue sky moving in here now

according to radar and satellite, it should be clear and sunny here in about half an hour!

Wind has eased significantly over Scotland I'm sure that's a welcome relief!

Still very windy with severe westerly gales continuing here on coast, gusting around 60-70mph now and not 80mph+ like earlier!

apparently the roof has blown off epsom race course

Epsom racecourse evacuated after high winds damage grandstand roof

• No injuries after part of the Duchess Stand roof was 'lifted'

• Epsom officials launch investigation of extent of damage

"We've had severe winds here this morning," Rupert Trevelyan, the managing director of Epsom racecourse, said. "We lost a few panels from the roof of the Duchess Stand and quite a lot of insulation. We've evacuated the site for safety reasons and we are now in the hands of the fire brigade and the police."

The squall line went through here at 0740 when I was driving to work, the worst gusts I have ever seen and horizontal rain, the car jumped around a bit and you couldn't see the roads for the running water. We've had a bit of a lull with skudding clouds and gusts rather than a constant blow, but now it seems to be picking up againg and sky is darkening and there seemes to be more heading this way across the irish sea. Has the wind direction turned more northwesterly?

Yeah that was rather intense, visibility dropped to about 100meters. Hail, Rain the lot, the wind must have gusted to 70mph?

Just had a nasty squall go through north, north east kent and to my surprise it even contained HAIL!. I could hear it smacking up against the window as i opened the door I was pushed back by the wind and could see the hail on the ground leaving a slushy mix on the car!
