As long your a reasonable distance away from the city glow you should be ok. Perfect conditions in Cumbria if I stay awake! :)

You going to take some photos Liam? What time are we looking at? I'm a complete night owl so might root out my camera and tripod.

Well I'll try! If it stays clear and things materialise at a reasonable time tonight. Also I'm not sure how good my camera will be at picking the Aurora up. :)

How is everyone? Hanging on in there? Just had a hail shower here. Temp 5c

Have you? Lol well it never made its way over here to Leyland! It is cold though, this morning felt colder than it was but the temps dropped this aft now from 8 to 6.5 degrees at the mo, dry and a slight breeze, feels cold though. Just noticed the updated Met office for tomorrow, snow for the northwest although when you click on the map it mentions the east!! Hmmn

Can anyone tell me what time these lights can be seen at?

I'll walk up the hills about midnight.

Apparently sightings in Northern Scotland were as early as 20:30 last night

Temperatures widely seem to be around 2.5 to 4C across the north, with temps as low as 0C in the north pennines, tonights rain/snow going to be interesting......

Wow thanks for posting, very encouraging indeed. If the NMM is right could see a good 5cm if not more.

Do you know what time the NMM is projecting the front to hit Yorks so I know what time to set my alarm for (lol)?

The last time we saw a decent frontal snow event was December 2008 and it produced this...

Something similar would be nice

Well at least the Dales will get a good plastering of snow

I'm not really sure what all the excitement is about? this will be a transient snowfall for the higher ground before much milder air sweeps in during Tuesday. Best chance above 300m+ for any brief accumulations.

Far from perfect conditions imo.

post-9615-0-54651600-1327339969_thumb.pn GFS predicting sleet at best.

post-9615-0-53306200-1327340036_thumb.pn Dew points above 0c

post-9615-0-91504500-1327340056_thumb.pn Wet bulb temp 3-4 degrees above 0c.

Bit of a frenzy over in the model thread, the easterly is back on the cards, personaly i hope not as I hate watching the rest of the country get buried in snow while us poor westeners get nowt.......thats usually the case with easterlys anyway.

I just saw the posts from Cheese rice, It seemed he had his hopes pinned high from this! No harm in being positive I suppose. :p

Some of you maybe lucky and catch some brief sleet or snow.

3.2c here currently, lower than It should be anyway!

5.6C and stalled here. So no chance of any snow unless we see some serious evaporative cooling. Which is very unlikely.

I think ice could be the biggest problem tomorrow morning, with an air frost and ground temps well

below freezing just as the precip arrives.

Looking good for a period of snow in higher parts of the region where dewpoints

will be a touch lower.

Can one of the more knowedgable please give a forecast for the North East of England based on the current output from tonigh's models please?

All I see in the Model Output thread is what is going to happen in the SE and I'm bored with it!

Thanks in advance :good:
