After this morning's fun and games, the winds although still quite gusty at times have died down from their earlier intensity. Feels very fresh in the wind although my desktop gadget still has us at 8c. Showers forecasted for next 12 hrs or so, bbc suggesting wintry mix but only I expect for the very tops of the highest hills.

Dropped from 9.7º at 7.10am to just 2.8º now, with frequent blustery wintry showers.

Blustery heavy wintry showers here. High gusts in showers and feels cold too.

Last shower left a complete covering on everything.

Another heavy one packing in now as I type..

That hail shower was absolutely INSANE! Pitch black, strong winds, very low visibility.. poor kids walking home from school, must have hurt!

Sounds like heavy hail here duno about any snow, can't see any. Hail after hail shower all day really intense and has been incredibly unpleasant to be in.

Rising uppers will assure that any snow is firmly reserved for high ground.

There not really rising by much if anything they might not raise at all. Around -4/-5 for the most part.

Anyway 3.c here (Dew point 1.c), constant heavy hail showers and strong winds.

Any snow reserved to the east of the pennines. Rather large temperature variation from as little difference as Manchester to Leeds, Manchester around 7.c, Leeds around 3.c. Shows the huge effect of the warming from the Irish sea, very similar to the warming of the north sea.

GFS suggests they will be higher than that around dawn. Could be sleet in heavier showers, but since the wind is west, showers will struggle to maintain intensity over the Pennines.

-4C uppers are marginal for where he is anyway (sea level near enough)

Well whatever they deposit snow/sleet/rain - there's a gang of showers setting themselves up to leave Northern Ireland and head across the Irish sea in the next few hours. Wrong side of marginal here for any snow, but maybe tops of pennines or higher up might see something tonight.

Wonder if there are any campers up at Wasdale Head?

Do they still go camping up there even at this time of year?

Wasn't there a lad killed from exposure up on the Scafells this week who was camped at Wasdale head?

People don't understand how dangerous the mountains in Britain can be at this time of the year.

In the winter, our mountains are the most dangerous in Europe!

The wind has really picked up again here within the last 20 mins - sounds very fierce and even with double glazing my light shade started swinging around with the last gusts!

At 2000hrs MetO recorded a gust of 72mph at Crosby this evening and I would say we've had some stronger ones since.

Really heavy hail showers today, very exciting weather and this morning the weather was very rainy and incredibly windy.

As the day has gone on it's got colder, about 2c out there now. Snow on Pennines possibly.
