Harsh Climate- How's the river Wharfe in Otley this morning?

Anywhere near coming over?

Haven't been working at the hospital this week so no chance to check.

Unfortunatly I can't see the river from my house, but on the bus home from leeds yesterday it did look like it had gone over into the fields around pool. So heaven knows what it's like now!

I might go for a walk down later, then let you know.

Well its a bight but chilly day, with the temperature sitting at 7.8C and a Dew point of 4.0C

With windchill factor its 4.3C so its feeling really chilly in the strong WNW winds, which is blowing at 36mph

with gusts upto 49mph. Certainly not a bad day by any means being that its dry and bright..but its all deceiving

with that wind chill factor.

Should remain mostly bright throughout the day, with a small chance of further rain showers this evening.

Mist is a possibility later overnight.

Gust of wind recorded at 93mph in High Bradfield in Sheffield as i have posted on the Midlands thread i wouldn't be suprised either by this as the winds were the worst i can remember for many a year.

Still only two air frosts this season here, on 17th and 18th December, the lowest of which was -0.7C. We're still completely snowless aswell, what a rubbish first half of the winter!

Today's min was 1.9C bringing a ground frost.

OON and Reef.

Just goes to show what a mild winter we've had so far.

We had a frost here just a mile from the city centre of Newcastle last night showing just how chilly it was last night.

Here's hoping the remainder of winter gives us all something more seasonal to discuss :drinks:

Not just this winter, but last year as a whole was mild, with just 46 air frosts compared to 107 during 2010!

Blimey, just goes to show how (after late November/December) mild winter 2010 was!

How many air frosts did you have in 2009 just out of interest?

Woohoo - an air frost (-2.2º). First of the year, first one since Dec 18th and only the 13th this winter!

I wasn't sure whether we saw an air frost but now I suspect we did. We are normally about 1 degree warmer than yourself under clear skies, so will have easily fallen below 0 degrees I imagine.

Quite a settled night here in Oldham for once this year.

Overcast but no rain, lows of 5'C

Next week looking boring, highs of around 8 and lows of 5 with light rain and cloud all week.

Still windy

A pleasant dry day today which makes a lovely change.

A dry, fairly mild and settled week ahead in store which will allow the sodden ground to dry out ...

... ahead of the snow the week after :pardon:

Today was rather grey with spells of drizzle and it felt mild with a top temp of 9.1c, looking at the forecast for tomorrow it will feel spring like with temps of 10-11c in the sunshine after the weather front has cleared through the morning. Already have daisies coming through!

But i cannot see it happening for at least 12days all depends as to where the HP decides to go as to which direction the cold comes from

I don't mind a period of quiet and benign weather this week after last week's dramatic weather. I would rather ditch the mild though, and have it more cold 'n' crispy! Maybe second half of January will bring the cold (fingers crossed)
