Can one of the more knowedgable please give a forecast for the North East of England based on the current output from tonigh's models please?

All I see in the Model Output thread is what is going to happen in the SE and I'm bored with it!

Thanks in advance :good:

Sorry, I was wanting a synopsis based on what the models are showing for this upcoming potentially cold/snowy weather next week/weekend.

Thanks mate.

Hmm, taking into consideration that you're bang on sea level, and the general rule that for snow at sea level -7.5C upper profile temperatures are needed, with a relatively high wet bulb temperature, with a dewpoint above 0C, I'm afraid it's going to be rain all the way for you!

Turning notably colder most likely this weekend, dry, but pretty frosty, and then towards Monday onwards chances of snow increase substantially.

I think NE England for the most part will see some wintry shrs above 50m between 8am and 11am, but mostly snow above 200m. Not much of an event, maybe the odd couple of cm's down Consett way.

This is a warm front- upper temps of around -5/-6c would probably bring snow to sea level at times- however upper air should be around -3c/-4c for the bulk of the precip, and so you're probably right about SS1 receiving no snow.

Yes indeed sir. Uppers are set to rise drastically from around 5am ish, so not exactly a pukka situation for snow.

I got a tweet of Alex Deakin saying this

you might get a bit tomorrow morning but not enough for a snowman

Did he mistake you for a 3 year old?! What terrible, vague forecasting!

Easy mistake :p

We might get a little bit although nothing shows up on the met office forecast for us, maybe we'll just be high enough up to get a few flakes, if its going to snow it usually starts at 6am when I go out to feed my chickens!

Not expecting any snow here until the big pattern change later this month, getting my first car very soon so hopefully the council will be using up their grit reserves at even the slightest chance of a flurry!

We'll all be getting buried by February if the models keep up their easterly plans, great time to live next to a 360 mile wide sea :winky:

Going to head out at around 10pm, is this late enough to see the aura?

I've written off tomorrow already - uppers will be far too high and the GFS shows a very low chance of even sleet occurring. The Met Office often seem to predict snow in these situations (think late Dec 2010, 10-15cm forecast!) but it never materializes.

XC Weather illustrates clearly where the risk of snow tomorrow morning is:

Its irrelevant what the GFS shows as it isn't a high resolution model, the NMM projects snowfall and so does the NAE.

Just because the resolution of the GFS is lower than the NMM does not mean you discount it.

It's very relevant, and has a good chance of being accurate.

As do the other models, so we cannot discount any of them! :)

Well obviously not as you yourself said it is a lower resolution model, therefore it doesn't use the vast variable the NMM/NAE use.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.
