who said it was snowing in blackpool?

A friend. It doesn't look like it, going by the radar. In fact it looks like the band of precipitation is fragmenting quite allot as it moves towards us. Not a good sign. Met might be wrong on this one. We might get light snow, followed by heavy rain.

It looks good for snow in our area in about 10 days time.

Milky white skies here and not a breath of wind. Temps hovering around 0 degrees and I suspect dewpoint is about -2.5 degrees thanks to the very dry air. The cloud cover and lack of winds is helping to keep the lid on any atlantic air mixing in with the cold dense air - this factor coupled with evaporative cooling once the precipitation arrives should ensure we see the precip starting off as snow and staying as snow for a good number of areas. The radar image predictions are an upgrade with the snow due to last a couple more hours than shown yesterday evening. It does look like it will turn to sleet on its back edge, but hopefully not for long and the precip will be lighter by then.

I'm off for a local walk late this morning into early afternoon too make the most of the snow. I'm pleased everything is going to freeze andf ice up overnight ensuring the snow sticks around for a good part of tomorrow even more so as it looks a cloudy day so no melt due to sunshine - if temps max at 4 degrees for a couple of hours at best we should maintain most of it through the whole day.

Paul posted one of the model runs showing the snow turning back to freezing rain (for a hour) across the extreme northern parts of the region overnight tonight as the front quickly moves out) it's going to be extremely dangerous underfoot and on roads in such a situation so I would caution anyone with the NWRADAR to keep a close eye on this. The front now making headway into the Irish Sea creating forcing ahead of it.

At least for a time, given dry surfaces & low dew points there is a sig risk of blowing and drifting snow across N Eng into the early aft
