To be honest, we all need to face it. If our weather stations are recording temps of around 1.5 and above, in general (in general) we will see cold rain. To be honest if the temp isnt at freezing or below im always worried what will fall from the sky.

In some conditions where very heavy ppn appears the temp can drop rapidly and big snow flakes can fall. But when 'wet' air slowly comes in contact with coldish air and temps above freezing it rains.

Now im sure many of you will disagree, but in the last TWO events the temperature just hasnt been cold enough for snow or lying snow. Especially IMBY.

We have currently got snizzle.... Snow and drizzly rain. All our earlier snow almost gone, and no sign of my new weather station.

Bad mood! Lol!

And just to add insult to injury, it's snowing heavily on wet surfaces and therefore not settling. GAH! (unhappy much?)

I think the snow that we see should just be appreciated in the air, it was never going to settle anyway.

Morning Khodds. Bummer... Mine arrived at about 10:00 this morning!

Woke up to a slushy scene outside... Not the 2-5cms forecast! Almost all gone now... Was snowing earlier for about an hour but it's stopped now. Wasn't settling anyway. :cray:

Don't think I can handle any more "snow events" this winter!

regardless of how much or how little snow has fallen from the 2 events during the last week it cannot be denied that this is quite some cold spell.

Here are the maximums/minimums for the month to date in Warminster ...

1.1c, -4.2c

0.3c, -6.5c

-0.1c, -8.1c

2.2c, 1.5c

5.0c, 0.3c

5.7c, 1.7c

3.9c, -3.9c

0.5c, -2.0c

1.9c, 0.0c

The average max for the opening 9 days is 2.27c and the average min is -2.35c meaning the mean so far is fractionally below freezing.

And to follow on from that today's max has been 2.5c so far and we have several hard frosts to come which over the weekend should equate

to the mean remaining sub zero.

Rapid thaw today after our brief snow I hope we have a little left up at home to freeze tonight but I doubt it will be much :fool:

Looks like winter is on the way out to me from here, strengh of sun is increasing by the day and although we have a brief northerly in charts that would end up being a dry event for us as welch mountains take out most of the ppn in form of showers before they reach us.

Would be nice to see one proper snow event without all this rain that seems to come with it this year.

February so far I have an average of -1.3c

Spot on - it has been a pretty cold period. Its a shame its been so dry - those very cold frosts just don't look as impressive when there is no ice everywhere to make it look pretty...

Interesting set of figures there Andy, very similar to here though have only reached 5C once. We just really need the snow to go with it - it's like a heatwave with no sun haha. A difference with this cold spell is the absence of visible frost.

Well we did get snow here today, but certainly not what was forecast although I am not as bothered about snow as I am about thunderstorms or when 80mph winds are forecast and yet every time it barely reaches much above 40mph!

So I am not bothered really.

and typically as the ppn moves away the last bits are falling as snow. Down to -0.6C and a DP of -0.7.

Forecast to go down to -5 widely, and onviously lower in rural areas, so cold, but not the coldest I dont think!

Ice could be the main issue in the morning, with puddles and slush and snow freezing overnight!

A milder week to come this week according to the models, nothing exceptionally mild, but milder than what we are used to!

GFS then throws us a northerly with a snow event next weekend, but to far out to be taken seriously at the moment!

A quite and milder week coming up, so a break from the trauma of recent events!

I didnt mean all time records but for this winter maybe? I have thin snowcover so im kinda hoping to get close to lowest of winter but its gonna be a push maybe with early cloud cover.

Also something to focus on while no snow in reliable timeframes. :D
