It's amazing how the precipitation has exploded over north wales and the irish sea!

We could have done with this hallening in Lincolnshire and head towards us but it is bone dry there.

Definitely has been a mix of sleet and snow.. some of the 'flakes' look like half melted ice pellets, so it really is marginal

All I can think of is, atm a large part of the this region (including myself) are not under 0c isotherms so the freezing level is above 0 and up to 100m + for most, with warmish surface temps and low rate of ppn it's melting on its way down ?

Everything else looks fine for snow. 850 Uppers and what not widely -6c -7c. The warmest uppers are confined to the SE atm.

heavy snow may cause faster melt, unless its really heavy!

Martin you're right, every time the snow/sleet gets heavier, it seems to warm up, not cool down...

How do you rate our chances Dave here?

From the way things are looking we will at some stage later on this afternoon and this evening see a period of moderate snow. Grounds temps are still very low because even though over the last two days we've lost some snow cover the vast majority is still on the ground. I think we'll perhaps get at least another 2-3 cm during the evening in to the late evening in my opinion.

Had 3 days of consecutive snow cover here but it doesn't look like it is going into a 4th. It's slowly thawing away.

We are on day 7 of consecutive snow cover here , not bad really as we only had around 5cm from last monday.
