Morning all!

A windy old blow last night giving just a taster of things to come in the next couple of days.

Went up to do the horse (just NE of Heathfield) and there is still 3" of lying snow in his fields:

ESTOFEX forecast out:

post-6667-0-16164100-1359277319_thumb.pn

Storm Forecast

Valid: Sun 27 Jan 2013 06:00 to Mon 28 Jan 2013 06:00 UTC

Issued: Sun 27 Jan 2013 07:30

Forecaster: VAN DER VELDE

SYNOPSIS

The cold continental airmass is losing the battle against the warmer maritime airmass advancing steadily with a fierce westerly flow pattern all over the North Atlantic, driven by a massive 940-ish hPa low south of Iceland. The occluded cold front arcs all the way from Iceland to southern Sweden down to Portugal, and the maritime airmass is unstable, especially at the west coasts of Ireland (with gusts 20-25 m/s, Monday stronger) and the UK. The cold front will also move along with significant vorticity advection into the western Mediterranean, where cyclogenesis takes place, but instability is weak this time. The old system of earlier this week is now petering out around Greece and Turkey, but there is still some convective juice left in it. It may produce some waterspouts.

Well, anyone thinking the winter went out of the window, with the very recent cold spell, should be thinking otherwise!, already GFS/GEFS. Hinting strong in latter output already for heights át Greenlanshutti.g down the squib, that is the atlantic.with a perhaps accute attack from east/northeast.and as some know once greeny high established,Its very hard for a quick return to mild atlantic driven slop, with the cold and any snow lingering longer, with no transitional, rubbish, making a mess....once again exiting times seem,to be rearing....and perhaps more signficant this time!!!!

All the snow has washed away and I am just recovering from our wonderful journey from Luton to Norwich and back yesterday, thank goodness there was no snow on the pitch. Had some really heavy rain last night and more is falling now. Hopefully TEITS is still looking for our early an unexpected return to cold.

60Knt wind gusts??????!?!!?!?!?

Thats pushing 70MPH?!

I think some coastal areas may see more, look at how it cranks up in the North Sea! There's quite a shove from the Atlantic at the moment - it's getting its own back on us for our snow events.

Just back from New Zealand - did I miss anything LOL

Was quite funny to occasionally log in to see the frenzy of fun and activity here while away.. sounds like you all had some fun while we were basking in the sun.

Looking forward to potential for the white stuff in Feb now.

the Met office are not making so much of it yet (for our region)- gusts of up to 60mph on the coast but even up to 55mph well inland. thats still going to blow your hat off and its around rush hour, so could be an unpleasant journey home for some.

however, the way the weather has been behaving lately, it wouldn't be a surprise to see this upgrade into something more nasty!

I'm not sure what effects the land will have in masking some of it, but it will blow a hooley here in Eastbourne and I have a family funeral tomorrow afternoon

The worse things could be with all the saturated ground, we might see some smaller trees down?

i was thinking that but its usually the bigger trees which are dying or have unstable roots which come down.

the leeward side of the south downs might see some protection from the wind but i doubt it will be much

Nice and sunny in Norwich but very windy. It reminds me of March "bringing breezes loud and shrill to stir the golden daffodil" :)

And here, for your delight is that verse in its entirety;

January Brings The Snow

January brings the snow,

Makes our feet and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,

Thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings breezes sharp and shrill,

Shakes the dancing daffodil.

April brings the primrose sweet,

Scatters daisies at our feet.

May brings flocks of pretty lambs,

Skipping by their fleecy dams.

June brings tulips, lillies, roses,

Fills the children's hands with posies.

Hot July brings cooling showers,

Apricots and gillyflowers.

August brings the sheaves of corn,

Then the harvest home is borne.

Warm September brings the fruit,

Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Brown October brings the pheasant,

Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast,

Then the leaves go whirling past.

Chill December brings the sleet,

Blazing fire and Christmas treat.
